PAGE 2, JUNE 30, 2008, THE ISLANDER Storm drain marking is joint effort Right: It's a shame that Brunswick and Glynn County elected officials don't get along as well as a group of city, coun ty and state employees and a bunch of kids got on last week. On Wednesday, June 25, Billie Jo Hagan (right front) the Water Resource Coordinator with the Glynn County Engineer ing Dept, worked in con junction with the Bruns wick Recreation Dept, and the Glynn County 4-H program to mark storm water drains in the Bell Point subdivision off Hwy. 17 with 'No Dump ing' tags. The tags are to alert people not to dump toxic materials such as lawn fertilizer or car oil into the drains because the water drains, untreat ed, straight into local creeks, rivers, marsh and the ocean. 4-H Program Coordination Yvette Pressley (far left) worked with 15 kids and counselor Sabrina Clinch (center) from the Brunswick Recreation Dept. Summer Camp program to not only mark the drains but to document them with hand held GIS devices. Hagan said, "This program is really just getting off the ground although there are some drains in the pier village section on St. Simons and in downtown Brunswick that have been marked." Above: Under the watchful eyes of her charges, Sabrina Clinch, a Bur- roughs-Mollette Elementary School special education teacher who is the head counselor with the Brunswick Recreation Department's Summer Camp program, puts a 'No Dumping' tag on a Bell Point storm water drain.
