Han del, Brunswick resident Sandy Dean has requested that Han del's office investigate the can didacy of Richard Strickland who is running as a Republican for the Glynn County Commis sion At Large Post 2 position. Ms. Dean asked that the sec retary's office "conduct a thor ough review of this situation and that you instruct the Glynn County Board of Elections to follow the existing law and to rule Strickland's candidacy as terminated due to an improper qualification due to an ongoing violation of the Hatch Act." Permar At least one candidate for the Glynn Comity Board of Education may have trouble finding a future ally on the board next year if he gets elect ed this week. While hearing a facilities committee report during their regular meeting last week, the Board of Education (BOE) challenged a statement made in a newspaper ad paid for by the “Friends of Jerry Mancil.” Mancil is the candidate who is looking to unseat BOE At Large Post 2 incumbent Lance Turpin. Islander staff photo Live Oaks Garden Club and St. Simons Land Trust fund Roundabout landscaping St. Simons residents had a little shock last Wednes day during their morning commute when, overnight, three large live oaks magi cally sprang up in the center of the Demere/Frederica Road roundabout. The three, 25 ft. trees are a gift from the Live Oaks Garden Club of St. Simons Island. The garden club donated $35,000 for the trees from money they have made over the years sell ing poinsettias at Christmas. The St. Simons Island Land Trust agreed to match the gar den club donation, according to Trust Executive Director Russ Marane, with funds raised to finish the roundabout land scaping.
