The power
of Faith
• Couple forms new
non-denominational
church on island
By Matthew J. Permar
The road has not been easy
for Mack and Alyson Tucker.
“I was ready for a divorce.
That’s where our relationship
was.” Alyson Tucker is frank
when she talks about her mar
riage, yet it is without rancor
or bitterness, because it is a
story about the power of faith
- genuine faith.
“But then,” Alyson contin
ues, “Mack found his way back
to the church. At first, I admit, I
was skeptical. But before long,
I saw such a change in him.
The change the Lord made in
him. Well, it took a while for
my heart to melt, but it did.
That was 27 years ago and the
rest is history.”
And this history, of faith,
has led Mack and Alyson Tuck
er to start a new church on
St. Simons Island - the North
Island Church.
Mack Tucker and Alyson
Cyle grew up in Atlanta where
they both went to North Ful
ton High School.
But their's was not a fairy
tale, high school sweethearts
romance.
The closest they came to
dating in high school was

City finalizes
sign ordinance
By Matthew J. Permar
At least one billboard sign
company got what they want
ed out of the Brunswick City
Commission and the city’s new
sign ordinance last week.
On Wednesday, Aug. 20,
during their regular meeting,
the city commission voted on
the final ten amendments to
the city’s Zoning Ordinance
that deal with sign regula
tions.
The commission approved
about half of the sign amend
ments at a previous meeting,
deferring ten of them for fur
ther work by City Planner
Arne Glaeser and attorney
Lynn Frey.
The amendment that
caused the most controversy
and discussion last week was
#6, the one dealing with the
size of billboard signs.
Glaeser’s recommendation
was to reduce the maximum
size of billboards from 400 to
301 sq. ft.
Explaining his reasoning,
Glaeser told the commission
that large, 600 and 700 sq. ft.
billboards were necessary on
1-95 where vehicles travel at
60 and 70 mph.
“Out on the interstate, the
signs need to be big enough
so drivers and passengers can
