the market closed we met in our
home. The plan was to rent a space
in Oglethorpe Point Elementary
School on Sundays when school is
closed. The school administration had
agreed, but just before we started out
there, this building came open.”
‘This building’ is on the second
floor of the Shops at Demere shop
ping center, above Loco’s restaurant,
on Demere Rd., St. Simons. It is the
former home of the St. Simons Com
munity Church, which is now located
in their new building on Frederica
Rd.
“We never anticipated being in our
own place this soon,” Alyson said,
“We are truly blessed and grateful to
be here.”
Asked about the name of the North
Island Church, Mack smiles and says,
“Yeah, we get a lot of questions about
that, not being on the north end of
the island and all. But St. Simons
is a northern island, in the northern
hemisphere, as opposed to a south
seas island. The name is not based on
the church’s geographic location on
St. Simons.”
Alyson adds, “And part of our logo,
part of the ‘N’ in North is an arrow
pointing up, as in ‘seeking His direc
tion’.”
Talking about the church, Mack
says, “One of our main focuses will
be music. I’m a musician and I have
had such an emphasis in my life on
music that it will be a big part of our
church and church services. We will
focus on the prophetic arts, painting
and dance along with music. We will
seek to embrace our members’ talents
in the body of Christ.”
Ayson, also an artist, paints in oils
mostly, and is very humble about her
gift even though her work is shown in
four or five island galleries.
The Tuckers are also obviously
very proud of their three children.
Cyle the oldest lives in Brunswick
with husband Shannon, who is the
Youth Minister at the St. Simons
Community Church.
Next is son McKendree, who lives
in Nashville, Tennessee where he
is a singer/songwriter/producer and
performs with the Christian band,
Sonic Flood.
Bethany, the youngest, like her
older brother who is also following
in her father’s musical footsteps, is
a singer/songwriter living in Atlanta
pursing a career in education.
The North Island Church in the
Shops at Demere will be open for
services on Sunday, September 7 at
11:00 a.m.
The 11:00 service will be preceded
every Sunday by a time of fellowship
at 10:30.
“Our purpose,” said Mack, “is to
build a community of believers that
make a difference.”
“And our mission,” he added, “is
to Embrace The Heart of The Father
by: Reaching the Lost, Destroying the
works of Darkness, and Advancing
The Kingdom of Heaven.”
If anyone is up to the task, it is
indeed Mack and Ayson Tucker. □

SECOND HOMES
Currently, homebuyers are enjoying an advantage in many markets.
Now may be the time to buy a second home. One out of three homes
sold in 2007 was a vacation home or investment property, according to
a recent Home & Garden Television (HGTV) report. This statistic shows
that demand for second homes remains healthy despite a slower housing
market.
There are really 10 considerations when buying a second home: don’t
impulse buy; evaluate your needs and long-term goals. Buyers enjoying
Brunswick & the Golden Isles looking for a weekend getaway usually
stay within a day’s drive from their primary home.
Other considerations: get to know the area before buying; find a local
real estate agent for assistance; decide what type home is right for you;
shop for your mortgage; add up all the expenses you will face; perhaps,
consider fractional ownership in a way to cut down costs; and be sure to
look into tax benefits. We’ll go into this further in future columns.
A recent news statement from The Appraisal Center on St. Simons
indicates “Single family home prices have probably bottomed out locally
which will gradually turn the ‘buyers market’ back to a ‘sellers market’ in
Glynn County. Now is a good time to talk with your favorite Realtor®.”
