while their criminally greedy leaders
steal 99% of the foreign aid we send
over.
Even with the poor and homeless in
this country, this country is still light
years ahead of the rest of the world,
even with our current volatile economy.
It is outrageous, unqualified, uncon
tested comments like this that drive
me nuts. It’s Hollywood’s insidious way
of sneaking little, almost subliminal,
cheap shots at conservatism into the
show.
And srue, it’s just a TV show, but a
couple of days later, people are talking
around the office or the water cooler or
the convenience store first thing in the
morning and someone says, “Well... ya
know... poverty in this country is at an
unprecedented level. And well, it's got
to be Bush’s fault.”
The other two courtroom story lines
on last week's episode that red-lined
my Ya-Gotta-Be-Freakin '-Kiddin '-
Me-ometer' were classic, 'It's-Not-My-
Fault-Blame-Somebody-Else' cases of
shirking personal responsibility.
In one, senior law firm partner,
Denny Crane (Shatner) drops uncon
scious to the office floor.
E-911 is called and it turns out that
Crane has been buying numerous pre
scription drugs off the internet without
prescriptions or even having consulted
a doctor and has become "toxic."
Well, no problem, the next day he's
A-OK and right back at work and
approaches his best friend, top gun
attorney Alan Shore (Spader) who is
known for his Pulizter-brilliant clos
ings and never loses a case or leaves a
dry eye in the house, and asks him to
represent him in a lawsuit against the
pharmaceutical company.
According to the show's writer's if a
person, an educated lawyer, is stupid
enough to take pills not prescribed by a
doctor, it's the pill company's fault.
Well, of course it is!!!!
Again a litany evils, this time perpe
trated on innocent people by the greedy,
corrupt pharmaceutical company, as
rendered by Shore stops just short of
selling children into slavery.
Sadly, some people will believe this
is a true representation of drug compa
nies, regardless of how many lives have
been saved by modem medicine.
My Lord, some of these TV people
just have no shame. “I

TV... Whaddup?
I don’t think I can watch Boston
Legal anymore.
Yeah... I know... it’s kind of a "So-
what?!? I'll read about it in Who Gives a
Crap magazine" revelation, but regular
readers may know that TV is one of the
ways I relax in the evenings and since
buying a new TV last year and getting
DVR service from our local cable pro
vider, I watch a lot of stuff.
A friend put me on to the self-explan-
atorily named show Boston Legal a year
or two ago saying it was pretty funny.
It was and is, and I watched because
it has a good cast of actors in James
Spader, Candice Bergen, John Larro-
quett and William Shatner, who, by the
way, portrays the show’s only conserva
tive as crazier than an outhouse rat.
The supporting cast, which at times
has included a vast array of luminaries
such as Julie Bowen, Rene Aubeijonois,
Henry Gibson, Craig Bierko, Betty
White, Shelly Berman, Gail O'Grady,
Michael J. Fox, Joanna Cassidy, Mare
Winningham, Alison La Placa, Delta
Burke, Katey Sagal, Richard Portnow,
Adam Arkin, Ed Begley, Jr., Freddie
Prinze, Jr., Heather Locklear, Robert
Wagner, Jere Bruns, Jeri Ryan, Tom
Selleck and A1 Sharpton (as himself)
are always good as well.
And the legal cases the fictional
Crane, Schmidt and Poole law firm
takes on are always beyond outra
geous.
I have been aware from the start
that the show, like everything coming
out of Hollywood these days, has a
heavy liberal sway, and that's OK, but
after last week’s show I don’t know if I
can watch BL anymore.
One case involved a 17 year old girl,
who, while very intelligent, educated
and politically savvy, had broken the
law by fraudulently registering to vote
and casting a ballot in an election.
During her attorney’s (played by
Larroquette) statement to the court he
listed all the things that are wrong with
America and effectively blamed the
sorry state of our country on the “old,
rich, white men” that “run” it.
Ironic, coming from an old, rich,
white man actor playing an old, rich,
white man lawyer.
"It’s time to give young people a
chance to have their say," he said, at
least 17 year olds. You know, with all
their worldly experience and such.
Reciting the laundry list of evils
haunting our country, that he clearly
laid at the feet of the aforementioned
"old, rich, white men," Larroquette
mentioned, and this is a quote, “unprec
edented poverty.”
Unprecedented?!?!?
Lord, have the show’s writer’s never
been outside, watched a news show or
read a newspaper.
Siue, no one doubts there are people
living in poverty in this country, but if
you want to find real poverty, look at
some of the corrupt third world coun
tries in places like Africa... there you
will find people living in real poverty...
