Romantic, humorous
film continues Southern
Circuit series at Ritz
On Monday, October 20 Golden
Isles Arts and Humanities Asso
ciation (GIAHA) presents the second
screening in its new Southern Cir
cuit movie program. The program
is a series of six new, innovative
independent films that travel from
theater to theater in the South with
the filmmakers present for audience
discussion.
Counting Backwards is a warm
and funny fiction feature about a
young man at a crossroads in his
life, re-evaluating the way he has
been living and seeking romance and
passion in the time he has left. The
film screens at 7:00 p.m. at the Ritz
Theatre in Downtown Brunswick,
with a reception and audience meet-
and-greet after the show.
Although the story revolves around
the protagonist’s awareness of a life-
threatening illness, this is not your
typical downbeat movie about the
end of life. Instead, audiences will be
treated to an imaginative, inspiring
take on what life can be if we are
willing to fight for it, with a wacky,
fun-loving relationship at its core.
Set in Chicago, the movie is a testa
ment to the value of blind optimism
and love against all odds.
Seattle True Independent Film
Festival acknowledged Counting
Backwards as most triumphant and
the Chashama Film Festival award
ed the film with the Best Narrative
Feature, Best Director, and Best
Actor awards. Counting Backwards
has also screened at the Santa Bar
bara International Film Festival.
Director April Winney will be
present at the screening for a post
show discussion about the themes
and techniques in her film. GIAHA
is pleased to partner with Hospice
of the Golden Isles to present this
funny, touching movie to local audi
ences.
Hospice of the Golden Isles is a
non-profit, community-based agency
that has provided expert, compas
sionate care to terminally ill resi
dents of our community since 1981.
Hospice provides services regardless
of a patient’s ability to pay.
Admission to the film is $5. Indi
vidual tickets go on sale at the Ritz
the night of the show beginning at
6:00 p.m. And GIAHA members get
in free to all Southern Circuit series
films through April 2009. For more
