THE ISLANDER, NOVEMBER 3, 2008, PAGE 11
Lane named United Way CEO
Gators Chomp Dawgs
By Joke Harrison
This weekend hundreds of UGA
faithful swarmed St. Simons eager to
watch their No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs
take on No. 8 Florida. By the end of the
game, most probably wished they had
never set foot in the Golden Isles.
Florida routed Georgia 49-10 despite
being outgained by the Bulldogs in
total yards.
The first half was relatively quiet
compared to the second, with Florida
scoring two touchdowns and Georgia
booting a field goal.
Then the intensity that had driven
Georgia in the first half simply dis
sipated and Florida was ready to take
advantage.
The Gators forced three turnovers
and scored 35 consecutive points before
essentially giving Georgia a free touch
down up 49-3 with under five minutes
left in the game.
Georgia coach Mark Richt probably
described it best: "We are feeling sick
right now."
The Bulldog nation and the team
they support should feel sick after their
pitiful showing against the Gators.
They came out in the second half look
ing flat and emotionless like they have
so many times in the past and lost the
game.
I have one question: You are playing
your most hated rival in a game that
has SEC and National Championship
implications. How are you not fired up
for that? Mark Richt needs to figure
out a way to get his team to play with
heart without wearing different color
jerseys or having the whole team cel
ebrate on the field after a touchdown.
If he can't do that, maybe he shouldn't
coach in the SEC. □
