Youth Flower show top winners
Local youth garden
clubs sponsored a Youth
Standard Flower Show
Monday, November 3,
in conjunction with the
Exchange Club of Bruns
wick’s Annual Fair. Nine
nationally accredited
flower show judges judged
the show which featured
36 design entries, 107 hor
ticulture entries, and two
educational exhibits.
Winners: Design Divi
sion Top Awards: Emalee
Sylvester, Preschool
through 7; Courtnee Cobb,
8-12; and Jordan Love.
Horticulture Division-
Top Awards: Titus Guffey,
Preschool through Age 7;
Lizzie Glendenning, 8-12;

Fair.
Six nationally accred
ited flower show judges
judged the show featur
ing 16 design entries,
139 horticulture entries,
and two educational exhibits.
Design Division: Brenda Griner,
Designer’s Choice Award; Horticulture
Division: J.J. Glendenning, Horticul
tural Excellence award and the Arbo
real Award; Ann Stone received an
Award of Merit.
Educational Division: Pat Prevatt,
Educational Award; Blythe Island Gar
den Club, Design Sweepstakes Award;
Urbana Garden Club, Horticulture
Sweepstakes Award.
The groups are now eligible to apply
for State and National Awards. □
Tom Trenney organist in concert November 18
On November 18, at 7:30 p.m. the
Island Concert Association presents
organist, Tom Trenney,
Director of Music Minis
tries and Organist at First
Presbyterian Church in
Birmingham, Michigan,
in a free concert at the
St. Simons Presbyterian
Church. Trenney directs
five choirs and Many
Voices... One Song, an
extensive music outreach
program.
He serves as artistic
director for the Ovations!
Concert Series, the Bir
mingham-First Chamber
Choir, an annual church
music workshop, and a
seasonal series of Sum-

mer Sings. He completed two gradu
ate degrees in 2002, at the Eastman
School of Music in Rochester, New
York, studying organ performance
with David Higgs and choral conduct
ing with Dr. William Weinert.
He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree
in Organ Performance from the Cleve
land Institute of Music where he stud
ied organ and church music with Todd
Wilson. He has been awarded First
Prize at several regional and national
competitions, becoming the first organ
ist to win both the First Prize and
Audience Prize in the American Guild
of Organists’ National Competition in
Organ Improvisation.
Trenney has been a featured per
former at regional and national conven
tions of the American Guild of Organ
ists and the Organ Historical Society
in Dallas, Ann Arbor, Seattle, Buffalo,
Chicago, Minneapolis, and Cleveland.
He has served as Organ and Choral
Clinician at the Westminster and Mon
treat conferences of the Presbyterian
Association of Musicians.
His debut recording, Organa Ameri
cana, featuring works by American
composers, was released on the Pro
Organo label in 2004. Organ Ovations
and Improvisations on the Raven label
was released in 2007.
The organ at St. Simons
Presbyterian Church is locat
ed in the choir loft. There will
be a screen projection of his
performance so that everyone
can see him perform. He will
be playing Bach, Schumann
and Ives and will perform an
improvisation on some Shel
Silverstein poems, as well as
improvisations on submitted
times.
Trenney's special talent,
silent film accompaniment,
will be presented during the
second half of the concert.

Buster Keaton.
