"The main event that led me to this
honor began during my academic days
at Sewanee," said Dr. Faulk. "One of
the most impressive people I have ever
known was the Vice Chancellor during
the time I attended Sewanee."
"He was a scientist, musician, archi
tect and writer. He was famous in the
field of radiation biology," Faulk said.
"Twenty years later, while I was
director of a research institute in Eng
land, I received a letter from this man.
He had retired but wanted to end his
career by working at the institute."
"He was in his 70's at the time and
I was inspired by his enthusiasm and
willingness to learn new things. I was
impressed with his drive and curiosity.
He had the same honesty and perse
verance as a young scientist."
"He is my idea of what makes a good
scientist - curiosity, honesty and perse
verance," Faulk said.
Faulk has taught and directed
research in the United States, Swit
zerland, England, France and the
Netherlands since 1964. He served an
internship at the University of Califor
nia Medical Center and a fellowship in
