ROM THIE S
Tech stomps Dawgs
By Jake Harrison
Head Coach Paul Johnson and his
No. 22 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
came into their annual rivalry game
with No. 13 Georgia looking to snap
a streak of seven consecutive victories
by the Bulldogs.
Much to the dismay of sold out San
ford Stadium, they did so in impres
sive fashion.
The Jackets beat the Bulldogs 45-
42 after outscoring Georgia 26-0 in the
third quarter. The Jackets punished
the Dawgs on the ground, rushing for
409 yards and five touchdowns as a
team.
Georgia started the game with the
ball and perhaps had their best drive
of the year. They drove down the field
and scored on a 1 yard pass from
Mathew Stafford to Tripp Chandler.
Stafford had the best day of his
career, throwing for 407 yards and
five touchdowns.
Tech got the ball back and looked
strong at first but their drive stalled
and they turned the ball over on
downs.
Both teams then traded punts
before Mohammed Massaquoi explod
ed for three touchdowns in the second
quarter. The score was 28-12 in favor
of the Bulldogs going into the second
half.
Georgia Tech came out in the sec
ond half and flat out showed up the
Georgia front seven.
They exploded for four touchdowns
and a field goal in the second half,
outscoring Georgia 33-14 in the sec
ond half. Roddy Jones and Jonathan
Dwyer each went over 150 yards on
the ground for Tech.
Georgia was able to score with 4:04
remaining to cut the lead to 3 but Tech
got the ball back and was able to run
out the clock. The final score stood at
45-42. Georgia Tech had gotten the
proverbial monkey off their back after
seven long years. □

And speaking of the San Diego Char

And oh, rest assured that Saturday,
