Ocean Lodge
Continued from Page 15
Parties, intimate or large, can
be held in the living room and card
room which are in the main lobby;
the Ocean Lounge and rooftop terrace
with breathtaking views of the Atlan
tic; the beautifully landscaped west
garden; the porte cochere which offers
an alternative to the garden in case of
inclement weather; and the third floor
board room.
"The Lodge is a wonderful place for
private dinners and holiday parties
which can include a full dinner or just
hors d'oeuvres," Pat said.
Valet parking is offered for large
groups or any event that cannot be
accommodated in the Lodge's parking
garage.
Right now Ocean Lodge is offering a
Winter Escape which includes a mini
mum two night stay for $295 per night
including full breakfast each morn
ing prepared by executive chef Dave
Butler, beach, bikes and chairs, and
aromatherapy amenities. Holiday gift
certificates are also available.
"Chef Dave is a major part of the
Lodge team," said Pat. "Whether he is
preparing a full meal or hors d'oeuvres
the result is flawless."
GM Pat Stockdale is one of the rea
sons the Lodge runs so smoothly. Her
attitude is 'we can accommodate any
budget' and 'our guests are treated like
family.'
Pat has worked in the resort hotel
business for years including as assis
tant general manager at Amelia Inn
and Suites in Florida and at Village
Inn and Pub on St. Simons Island.
After moving back to Minnesota to
take care of her sister, she returned to
St. Simons Island to open the Lodge.
Pat and her entire staff make the
'little things count' which in turn
'makes' a guest's stay at Ocean Lodge
close to perfect.

THE ISLANDER, DECEMBER 8, 2008, PAGE 15
Young Writers Competitions announced
The Eugenia Price/Joyce Black
burn Foundation in association with
Golden Isles Arts and Humanities
Association (GIAHA) is seeking sub
missions for the Eleventh Annual
Young Playwrights and Young Poets
Awards.
The Young Playwright’s Award
encourages and recognizes the lit
erary talents of all public and pri
vate middle grade students in Glynn
County, and is open to any stu
dent (including the home-schooled)
in grades 6-8. Submitted plays are
“blind judged” by writers and the
atre professionals, and the winners
receive $500 for first place and a pro
duction of the winning play and $300
and $200 respectively for the second
and third place winners along with a
staged reading of their plays. Origi
nality, creativity and content are the
basis of the judges’ decisions. The
productions and readings take place
at a showcase at the Ritz Theatre in
Spring 2009.
Plays must be submitted as typed
or printed hard copies by Friday,
February 27, 2009 by 5 p.m. to
Golden Isles Arts and Humanities
Association at the Historic Ritz The
atre in Downtown Brunswick.
The Young Poets Award is to
encourage and recognize the literary
talents of all public and private high
school students in Glynn County.
Originality, creativity, content and
style are the basis of the judges’
decisions.
Submitted work by students in
grades 9-12 will be blind-judged by a
three person panel made up of poets,
writers and educators. The students’
name and school will be deleted from
their manuscripts before being sent
to the judges to ensure impartiality.
One winner will be selected from
the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
Each winner will receive a $250.00
cash prize and be invited to read
their poem in a public presentation
arranged by Golden Isles Arts and
Humanities Association. The win
ner will also receive the designation
“Poet Laureate of the Grade”
and a certificate.
Poem(s) must be submitted by
Friday, March 13, 2009 by 5 p.m. to
Golden Isles Arts and Humanities
Association at the Historic Ritz The
atre, 1530 Newcastle Street, Bruns
wick, GA.
The poem(s) must be reflective
of this year’s theme, which is tied
to The Big Read community-wide
literary reading initiative. All works
should reflect either the charac
ters, settings, time period, story, or
themes of the 1960 book To Kill a
Mockingbird.
For complete guidelines, rules
and information about both contests,
visit GIAHA’s web site, goldenisle-
sarts.org (click Arts in Education on
navigation bar and follow links to
Young Poets Awards), or call 912-
262-6934, or email info@goldenisle-
