Snyder was honored for her outstanding performance with the local law enforcement dis patch agency. The State chapter has over 360 active members in its organization, and is affiliated with the nationwide APCO organization. The APCO honored C.O. Snyder and presented her with an award and certificate for being the “2008 Communica tions Officer of the year” on March 10 dining the organi zation's Spring Training con ference held at the King and Prince Beach Resort on St. Simons Island. Her nomination came about from a call she handled in October of 2008. Permar Unlike our federal govern ment in Washington - that is throwing billions of tax dol lars at everything from cat fish research to tattoo removal - Andrea Preston, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Glynn County School System, is looking for ways to reduce the system’s budget for the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1. Preston has already pre sented two draft versions of the FY 2009-10 budget to the Board of Education (BOE) dur ing recent finance committee meetings. The last was dining the Tuesday, March 10 meet ing. The main budget working point for Preston right now is an estimated $4.9 million shortfall, but she does not see it as an insurmountable hur dle. Photo courtesy of GC Assistant Police Chief Scott Trautz, Teen Center open for summer Above: Construc tion on the Boys and Girls Club of Glynn's (B&GC) new teen center is on track, according to Execu tive Director Brian Dolan, who said he expects the facility to be open by late May or early June. The teen center, which is visible from the inter section of Community Rd. and SPUR 25 next to the former Toyota dealership in Bruns wick, is located just off Coral Park Dr. The teen center will include a full restaurant, digital lab and learning center, theater, college training classroom, movies, guest speakers, a full gym with a stage for dances and concerts, an arts studio for all visual arts and outdoor athletic fields. "We are really trying to encourage all kids to come to this center," said Dolan, "We want diversity. "We want kids from Brunswick and out in the county.
