Summer theater camps at the Ritz
Golden Isles Arts and
Humanities Association
(GIAHA) is expanding its Sum
mer Theater Camp Program to
four different sessions for 2010,
offering young people ages 7
and up a fun learning experi
ence and a chance to show their
skills on stage.
The Ritz has offered the pop
ular Summer Theater Camps
for the past decade. Theater
classes are not only for those
who want to be on stage; they’re
also a great way to enhance
concentration, discipline and
social and interpersonal skills.
Camp Schedule
June 7-18, 9 a.m. - Noon,
Monday-Friday: On the Spot
with Improv (Ages 13-18)
Using improvisational
games, students will learn how
to "jump in there and let go."
Open to all levels of experience,
this fun session will culminate
in a unique performance where
two teams battle for laughs and
points as they make up scenes,
games, and songs on the spot.
Kelly Dobbin will teach the
class. Dobbin holds a Master
of Fine Arts degree in Theater
Performance from Roosevelt
University and has performed
professionally in a variety of
venues throughout the country,
including acting on stage at the
Ritz in such shows as Fahren
heit 451 and The Little Foxes.
June 21-July 2, 9 a.m. -
Noon, Monday-Friday: Acting
on the Stage (Ages 7-12)
Explore the world of act
ing on stage through theater
games, improvisation, and
scripted material. Participants
will create and perform their
own play at the end of the two-
week session. Taught by Heath
er Heath, Executive Director of
GIAHA and longtime profes
sional actor and director.
July 5-16, 9 a.m. - Noon,
Monday-Friday: On the Spot
with Improv (Ages 7-12).
Taught by Kelly Dobbin.
July 19-30, 9 a.m. - Noon,
Monday-Friday: The Play's the
Thing (Ages 10-18)
This session is open to stu
dents who have experience in
performing on stage. Using
scripted material, participants
will focus on further develop
ing such acting skills as creat
ing character, and vocal tech
niques. A showcase of scenes
will show off their talent at the
end of the two-week session.
Requirements for participants:
audition, participation in prior
summer theater camps or
actual production experience.
Taught by Kelly Dobbin.
Each session is limited to
no less than 10 and no more
than 20 participants. The fee
for each two-week session is
$150 if registered before June
1 and $175 for registrations
after June 1. Parents can also
sign their children up for two
or more sessions for only $125

three new members
Wednesday, April 14th U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla
10-10 Commander Motts Parrinello, right, swore in three
new members. Angie Lowe (left to right), John Farmer
and Rita Spalding are now ready to serve as America's
Volunteer Lifesavers. Duties will include educating the
public about boating safety, conducting vessel safety
checks and on the water patrols. The U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary also supports the Coast Guard in nearly all of
