Let’s Put
Glynn County
Students First
As an At-Large candidate for the Glynn County Board of Education, Gloria Burns is committed
to improving our schools with greater Accountability, Transparency and Consistency.
Accountability
This is a challenging time as elected leaders must carefully balance the reality of decreasing
local and state revenue with the critical need for quality education. Now more than ever,
we need Board members who are committed to improving educational and economic
opportunity for Glynn County children, who are creative and open to more efficient and
cost-effective delivery of education, and who are accessible and responsive to the
communities they represent.
Did you know?
• Almost 75% of every local tax dollar goes to the Glynn County Board of Education.
• Glynn County spends more than $1,000 per student than the State average, yet both of the County's high
schools remain in Needs Improvement status.
• The District is Glynn County's 3rd largest employer.
• As the largest consumer of local taxes, the Board has an obligation to be a responsible steward of public
resources.
• We can no longer afford to support a Board attitude of let's just try it and see if it works.
• We need Board members who recognize that our children do not get a do-over when programs fail them.
• The District's past fire, aim, ready approach wastes scarce taxpayer dollars and diverts valuable resources
away from our classrooms, with too many new programs cast aside after substantial investment of time and
resources.
• Board members must devote the time and effort to make informed decisions and involve all stakeholders
- parents, teachers, students and the community - in the planning process.
• The Board must take the lead in accountability and move beyond being just a rubber stamp for staff
recommendations on educational policy, budget development and evaluation.
