Farm City Week proclamation issued
At the November 17 Brunswick City
Commission meeting, the commission
declared November 19 — 25 Farm-City
Week.
Part of the proclamation stated,
"Farmers and ranchers literally help
feed the world by producing a bounty
of agricultural products, and agricul

industry."
Farm City week in Brunswick is to
celebrate the achievements of all these
citizens, farmers from every sized farm
or agricultural workers, who together
provide Glynn County and our nation
with agriculture products of every
kind."
After receiving the proclamation
Betty Ann Lewis', representing the
Farm Bureau, said to commissioners,
"Don't let anyone tell you there's no
agriculture in Glynn Comity."
"Along with traditional farms, there
is also a variety of other forms of agri
culture," she said.
Her list included forestry and relat
ed products including Christmas trees
and pine straw; hunting leases which
provide land dor deer, duck and tur
key hunting; local backyard gardening,
blueberry farms; livestock including
beef cattle, goats, poultry, honeybees,

at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel we
were able to successfully accomplish
that.”
Construction began last year after
owners of the Jekyll Island Club
Hotel agreed to partner with the
Jekyll Island Authority to restore the
historic building. The interior and
exterior of the building have received
extensive renovations including a
new floor, skylights and interior wall
surfaces. Exterior shingles have been
replaced, and the building has a new
roof reflecting the original look of the
historic building. A mezzanine that
overlooks the main floor was also
added. The newly constructed main
floor is approximately 4,900 square
feet and can accommodate more than
400 people.
“Having this new banquet and
meeting space means a wealth of
new business opportunities for the
Jekyll Island Club Hotel and Jekyll
Island,” stated Kevin Runner, the
hotel's General Manager. “We are
delighted at the results”
The ribbon cutting ceremony for
the Morgan Center took place in
front of the grand staircase that
leads up to the newly constructed
mezzanine.
The Morgan Center, already open
for business, hosted the Georgia Rec
reation and Parks Association on
November 2, the day after construc
tion completed.
Last week the Atlanta branch of
the Federal Reserve, met in the Mor
gan Center. The group held meetings
in the historic district convention
campus to commemorate the 100th
anniversary of the creation of the
Federal Reserve and the initial meet
ing of the Federal Reserve which took
place on Jekyll Island in 1910.
The Morgan Center will host the
Georgia Farm Bureau for their annu
al convention on Jekyll Island in
December. □
