The home utilizes Integrated Structural Insulated Panel Systems (iSips), a highly insulated building material that replaces stick-frame con struction. By using the insulated iSips panels, the homeowners can expect a 50-70% annual reduction in energy costs compared to “stick frame” con struction. iSips and the homeowners, are pur suing the US Green Building Coun cil’s (USGBC) LEED Gold Certifica tion. LEED certified homes have been designed to improve air quality indoors and use significantly less energy to operate. The home is the only residence in the area built to LEED quality certifi cation, which differentiates a home as being among the best-built and high est-performing in the country. The resi dence will undergo inspections from a LEED-certified rater to ensure the home meets the USGBC’s rigorous standards in eight categories. “By starting with iSips structur al panels, the home is tightly sealed and fully insulated,” said Tina Bostic, iSips President. “With a better building envelope, we then add energy saving systems such as geothermal to create a hybrid energy approach.” “We want to build an efficient home that has long-term benefits like energy savings, cleaner air, and decreased water usage. The iSips system pro vides us all of that plus multiple tax credits,” said homeowner Eric Wildes. "By building a home that requires less energy now, we are better prepared for the future when energy costs escalate and alternative energy sources become readily available and more affordable.” In addition to the energy-efficiency and improved air quality of the home, building with iSips has a significantly shorter timeline with iSips panels. The insulated panels are custom fabricated in iSips’ factory according to the archi tectural plans and assembled on the job site in a few days. “A 3,000 square foot home can be framed about a week,” said Bostic. “The speed and precision of assembly is amazing to witness.” The 3,100 square foot home is planned to be ready for the Wildes to occupy in late December. ‘With iSips Green Built, building a high performance home is no more costly than buying resale,” Bostic said. "Plus customers can get exactly what they want in terms of architecture, design, and energy efficiency over the life of the home.” □ Get back in the game with lasting pain relief. Dr. Ralph W.
