Twenty Cents a Pound.
August cotton sold in New York
Monday for 20 cents a pound the
’ highest price paid since the Civil
war.
The short crop the pressure of
the contractors and the disincli
nation of the bulls to turn loose;
holdings of last year's crop forced
those speculators known as bears
tb pay 20 cts per pound.
Buyers in Savannah are only
offering 11 3-4 cts a pound.
The planter able to hold his cot
ton will doubtless realize some of
the profits which speculators aim
to make on account of ibis ex
tremely short crop.
Catton Seed Hulk for Cattle.
For long or short fattening peri
ods experiments at the Toxas sta
• iion seem to clearly indicate that
when cotton seed bulls costs S 3 to
$4 per ton and cotton seed meal
§l2 to §lB, it seemed most profi-!
table to feed cattle five or six ;
pounds to every pound of meal ,
When lees than two and one-half i
paunds of hulls are fed to one
pound of meal tho appetite is dis
turbed and indigestion produced.

Profitable Farming.
The man who grows on the farm |
al! that he consumes on it saves a
double transportation-the hauling
- home of what he buys and the
hauling to market of what be sells
’to pay for it says the Rural Hotno.
These two items of cost help
Very materially to make np the
•difference between profitable and
unprofitable farming.
Manor* on the Farm.
The man who has hundreds of
loads of manure on his farm near
his buildings who says he has no
time to haul it out, or that it will
cost too much to hire it done, is to
be pitied.
He may live in your neighbor
hood. The man who has no use
for manure on land nowadays will
soon have no use for the farm.
fsrmin en Pig*.
Keep your pigs free from vermin
and also free from worms and you
wilt not hear so much about cholera.
Many hogs die from the above
causes and the trouble was laid to
cholera
If the genuine cholera ever gets
into your heard of hogs you will
■quickly kgow it, and all the doc
toring yon may do will be«>f little
use.
The many so-called cures are
genera} failures. Kill those show-1
ihg those showing the disease and I
put all the others on news 'ground ■
where no hogs have been and feed
them but very little and you may
stamp out the disease to a consi
derable extent.
Sheep an the Farm.
Every farmer should keep »
flock of sheep for every farm bas a
place for sheep which nothins; else
can till.
Tho Hock may lie a small one. ,
That denenda on conditions, but
the flock should be amply sufficient '
•to supply the family with mut
ton.
i
Hoke Smith will get to use that
fine carpet that Joe Brown paid
six thousand dollars for. Th® car
pat is us“d in the rooms of the
captiol occupied by the Governor.
