A Tribute
Os Respect
The removal from a family, of
cue of Ha dearly beloved mem here,
whether that member be a little
obild, or a man in bia prime, or an
old man, aereuely passing into sun
act; alters, for a t me, the whole
source of feeling, and takes the col
or and flavor out of every incident
in the daily life. The zest of life is
gone. Iflt be a parent, whose coun
sel end power to ootnfort and soothe
are missed in the experiences which
fall day by day into every lot. the
bereaved ones walk, as it were, with
heads bared to the storm. A bul
work that stood between them nnd
the buffets of adversity is removed.
They stand face to face, in the
front rank, with eternity; the gen
eration that preceded them, and
kept the chilled winds away, has
passed into the great silence. The
sense of orphanhood is sorely felt
by many a middle-aged man and
woman when a grey-haired, and
agsenfeebled parent is taken home;
felt as keenly and sharpely as ever
by a obild, whose helplessness and
immaturity are left undefended at
the time of a parent's loss.
Into the sanctuary of our grief
when s fond parent dies, no pro
fane foot may enter. “The heart
knoweth its own bitterness with
which a stranger intermeddle!h
not." The heart has its locked
doors, inscribed “In Memoriam,’’
through which, so wise anl tender
ia God, and so elastic aud many
aided is humanity, tha grief wea e
itself out by degrees. After the
first interval, when tears must have
their way, it ia becoming us that
we hide, as much as possible, our
grief, lest those with whome we
come in contact, form a wholly
wrong conception of the power ot
our holy religion to uplift aud cot,-
aolein the boursof darkness. Let us
pillow our aching head on the
thought, God knows; rest the tired
eyes on his starry words of prom
lee. Even in the hottest fire ot
grief and heartache, as we walk
through it, we may behold, in the
midst of the fire, a form like unto
the &m es God.
If we accept our Lord’s positive
statement; “In my Father’s hous<
are many mansions,” we can afford
4o Wait a little while in confident
hope and expectation of a happy
reunion, after life’s fitful drearnfts
oyer.
To our beloved president of our
Missionary Society, Mrs. W. J
Bush, we commend the foregoing
Words, praying that she may find
a measure of comfort in them, in
these days of mourning for the
going away of her excellent father.
In all onr thinking and in all our
prayers, we oommityou to God and
tbs word of Hie grace, fur He is
aa the shadow of a great rc.cn in a
weary land. (
Signed,
Mrs. A. S Blanks,
Mrs. M. G. Clements,
Committee.
