(For the wife)
By Lillian Mayfield Roberts
In the Ladies’ Home Journal.
If I can keep my nerve when, un
expected,
An extra man comes strolling in
to dine,
And sweetly serve him-and not be
detected-
The salad that should rightfully
be mine;
If I can wait an|hour for my dinner
And serve the ruin, yet keep my
face serene,
Nor blame tough bbcuits on tht
actual sinner,
But swallow them and so avoid
a scene;
If I can hear the phone when I’ve
been waiting
For hours to be taken to n show,
And answer it and k« p my voice
from grating
When husband says he finds he
cannot go-
A man came in to-night whom he’s
bean trying
In vain for many days and weeks
to eee-
If I can say to him, although I’m
lying.
‘‘lt really didn’t inconvenience
me”;
If I can let the day tick off its
hours
Without reminding him and
without tears,
Nor think of all the times he sent
flowers
For no real cause at all-in other
years;
If 1 can realize that his forgetting
Is no true index of bis love and
thought,
And see that in resentment I am
letting
Fade and die out real flowers hr
has brought; e
If I can be the first, with harsh
words spoken,
To say ‘‘Forgive me.” and “I’m
sorry,” too,
Yet feel the strength of right it
me unbroken,
And know resentful flames stil
burn in you,
If I can do these things-yet with
out meekness-
And withjit all still keep my joy
in life,
Knowing "to give” is strength and
never weakness,
I’ll be your partner aud-a Per
feet Wife!

What to Do For
A Persistent Cough
Everybody knows how foolish and
dangerous it is to let a cough hang on
and on. The proper thing to do is to
stop it—quick—and for this purpose
there is nothing better than that great
old home remedy that our parents and
grandparents used so successfully—
Dr. Bell’s Pine Tar Honey. It often re
lieves a severe cough overnight. Doc
tors say there is really nothing like pine
tar to quickly loosen and' remove the
phlegm and congestion which are the
direct cause of the coughing, while the
honey not only gives a pleasant taste
but helps soothe soreness and irritation.
But be sure you get the genuine Dr. Bell's
Pine Tar Honey ana not some substitute. Dr.
Bell’s is the original, and has been known for
many years as the best. It is scientifically com
pounded of just the right proportions of pine
tar, honey and olherquick-acting ingredients,
which the best doctor* have found to aid in
bringing quick relief. Contains no opiates or
other harmful drugs, so can be given even to
young children—fine for spasmodic croup. If
you want the best home remedy in the drug
■tore, get Dr. Bell's. 30c at all good druggists.
