S. to carry off the first honor. In bis race for the place he had a close second in Miss Bernie* George from Cooktown, winning bv only a fraction of a point ac cording to records. Mr Wilkin will deliver on May 31st at the M. E. church lion where the closing exercises will be held, the valedictory and " Miss Gsorge wdi give jodutatory. * o r Closing at Noon On Thursdays During the summer months tht drygoods stores are to close at noon on every Thursday. In the larger towns this rub holds good in nearly all the mer cantile establishments. The merchants to close, Messii B. H. Fudge, J. W. Hamby, L E Calhoun, H. Stein, with their fam Hies and employees are to cele brate their first afternoon off, with a picnic Thursday afternoon at Rawls Landing on the Spring Creek. .o T . . Serving His Sentence Most of the citizens heard how colored men, Joe Brown and John Gram, forced an entrance into th? shop of Mr Floyd Pierce and took out tools sufficient to open places of business here. This happened about two weeks ago, and the Full Measure Service Station was opened, and tires, tubes and other automobile acces sories were stolen. Next the brick building owned by Watson Chev* rolet Co., was entered and a few pieces of gold, sooveniers, belong ing to Mrs S. M. Watson, were ta ken. These amounted to thirty-five dollars. Every thing stolen by the negroes was recovered except $5 of the gold coin. Joe Brown entered pleas of guil ty to having burglarized the stores here and is now serving the two year sentence passed on him. John Graham was carried to Clay county with charges prefer red against him for stealing by parties living in Ft, Gains. Harden of Brinson, were on a fishing tri* at the lake here this week. Miss Dola has returned from a three weeks stay at Gainesville, Fla Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn William, and their a tractive littlodaughter,, Martin, spent the week-end with her parents in Edison. Mr. Vose Babcock, of Pittsburg, Pa., is visiting his uncle, Mr. C F. Babcock. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Jones spent Sunday with their eon, Mr. Eus tice Jones. Misses Edna Yates and Maude Jones, of West Bainbridge, spent Saturday with Miss Janie Denton. Mr. C. F. Babho?k attended It business in Albany Monday, ano was accompanied by hie nephew, Mr. Vose Babcock, and Misses Eula and Lena Belle Williams and Dola Yates, who were royally en tertained at Hotel Gordan. FUDGE. o Twilight School Exercises f * i The public exercises held May the 7th were attended by hundreds of people, some saying it was the most enjoyable affair they had ev er witnessed. Twenty-seven of the pupils tak ing part had never been on a stage before. The readings, playlets, dialogues, songs, etc., were well rendered, and the throng attending teemed very appreciative. The older students taking pari in making the evening a delight were Masters Ralph Cross, Leo, Leon, Roy and Murphy Daniels, Cosby and Lawrence Laue, Willie Miller, Curtis Mears, James, John , B. and Van Roberts, and Misses Wilma Chambers, Lucile Cross, . lewell Eufinger, Nadine Miller, , Eliza Meek, Martha Dell Mc- Kinnon, Allie Lee, Eloise, Beat rice Myrtle Lee and Vera Mae Roberts, Vtra and Zenuie Belle Williams, and at least tbirity little mes, who acted their ports well. Mr. Tom Haya carried Mr.Cecii Knight down to Quincy, Fla. Sunday. On their return they were accompanied by Mrs. John Ware and children, who are visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Jas. T. Knight.
