Miss Elizabeth Hall came down from Albany Sunday with Mr. James Roberts, who brought Miss Julia Rich here to spend the day with her Cousin, Mrs. E. J. Hunter. Miss Hall gave up a stenographic position to remain awhile with her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs, W. J. Pridgen, in Eldorendo. Hie many friends were glad to see Mr. Drew M. Roberts, of Ma con, here this week. His health has greatly improved in tbe Central City, where he and his wife have operated, for years, a popular board ing house. Mri. Ivau Jones returned with her husbhnd Sunday from a de lightful stay in Morgan, formerly her home town, where she was pi anist during a revival at tbe Bap tist church. Accompaning tbe couple home was a winsome guest, Miss Majorie McClelland, of Mor gan, a relative of the Mr. C. R. Phillips and his charm inn wife came up from their home in Eustis, Fla., last week. They were accompanied by his sister, MLe Effie Philips, and by their youngest brother, Mr. Joe Brown Phillips. The party bus been en joying a stay out at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J, A. George, a citizen of this county, who died last week at the home of a niece in Panama City, Fla. were snterred in tbe Pilgrims Rest Ce metery on Thursday of lest week, Rev. Mr Wade conducting the funeral. The deceased is survived by tive sons and three daughters all grown, They are Mr D. 0. George of El Paso Tex., Mrs Hattie L. Johnson of Knoxville Tenn., Mr W. F George of Eldorado Ark., Mrs Fan nie Mae Eggleston of Poplarville Miss.,'Mrs Ida I’earl G'liver,.Tulsa Okla., Messrs W. H. George, New Orleaes La , 0. E. George, Jack sonville, Fla. and P. K- George, Poplarville Miss. The decendants were scattered over a wide area. Four of them reached here for the funeral, and one whs with the deceased when the summons came to him. He is also survived by one bro ther, Mr J. M. George, who is looking after the farm left by tbe deceased brother. , Mr George was a qu+et orderly citizen. It “Betty” ie finally chosen .to represent,Delaware • she will be given a week’s trip to the Exposition and to Washington and the 1 White House, where she will receive a medal from the,hands of President Coolidge. VOL XXIX Remains Brought > Here • Friday on tbe 5:32 afternoon t train the body of Mr. W. A. Pow ■ ell arrived at tbe station here. It was carried to the bungalow of Mr, W. H. Grimes, a brother i of the widow, and the deceased was a brother of Mrs. W. H. Grimes. It rested there till ten o clock Saturday morning, when it was borne to the Baptist church. There Rev. J. C. Grimes, of Shell man, agisted by Rev. E, M. Wise, conducted the impressive funeral service in the presence of relatives and friend. The floral tributes were exquis itely beautiful, especially a red cross with K. K. K. wrote in flow* ere, resting on a green pedestal. Although the body had been brought from Bradenton, Fla., a distance of nearly 600 miles; and had been kept in the casket for more than 90 hours, it was in a perfect state of preservation, ow ing to the skill of the embalmer, Mr. PoweM Looked natural. - Those coming from Brom' Bra , denton were the bereaved wife, I the four sons, the eldest being on ly-eleven years of age, and the in daughter, fourteen . months old. The brother of the deceased, Mr. J. G. Powell, Mr. and. Mrs. Bruce McCollum, the latter a sister of the widow, and then the trio of Oolquittans, who hurried to Flori da to see “Gussie,”,as he.was lov ingly called, returned with the other strickened reiatiaes. They were the Mother, Mrs. Fannie Powell, two brotners, Messrs J. W. and Hugh Powell. Mesdames Belk Thompson and Vassar Lane also were among the relatives coming on the sad mis sion. Following the funeral ser vices the body was interred in tbe family lot at Pilgrim’s Rest. The relatives from Bradenton remained over with relatives and friends here till Sunday night and Monday. Mr. Powell hold a position in the post office at Bradenton. Some thought that the widow and her five children might return to this city, or that she might join tier parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Grimes, al the old homestead; but she returned to her home in Bra denton. With the help of Messrs B r uce McCollum and J. G. Powell it is thought she can do better there. The hundreds of friends of the large family sympathize with them in their bereavement, in tbe loss of a splendid husbaud, a noble father, an excellent son, a loving brother and a faithful friend-; for “Gussie” Powell was ail of these. o - Notice!
