' I)r. 0. B. Williams, professor of
New Testament Greek and Exegesis
in Mercer's School of Christianity,
has been honored by being invited to
lecture next summer in Dubuque Uni
versity, Iowa. Officials of the great
Western university desire that Dr.
Williams shall devote eleven weeks
leeturing to advanced Greek stu
dents. ' . \ .
College and seminary graduates
only would be in Dr. Williams’
classes at Dubuque if he accepts the
invitation to lecture there. The Mer-
eer professor intimated that he- will
give at least six weeks of his time to
Greek instruction at Dubuque. He
desires to. travel in Europe during the
■remainder of the summer, and ..there-,
fore ••‘may not remain at the Western
institution more than -five weeks.
When 'Of. Williams -travels in Eu
rope-next summer ufter his, work at
Dubuque, he' will be accompanied by
his.soil, who is now a student'of Ox
ford University, England. For .seyr
eral -years - Dr. Williams' has been
planning to go to Europe, t -vDt and
Palestine. He believes that a trip
through Bible lands will be of great
service to him, in -his teaching at Mer
cer, and, he Wished the young minis
ters here to get the benefit of what
ever experience and information lie
may get white abroad.
It is regarded as a signal distinc
tion to Dr. Williams and to Mercer
University that he -should be selected
from the Greek scholars of America
to lecture at Dubuque to graduate
students. He has given twenty-years
of his life to the teaching of Greek
and', has introduced - some original
methods in his instruction, such as a
list of tho one hundred most- com
monly used Greek verbs in the -New
Testament and how niany times each
is used, together ■ with their signifi
cance in certain constructions.
Dr. Williams came to Mercer from
Howard College, Birmingham, Ala.,
where he was president of that insti
tution’. He was formerly Greek pro
fessor in the Southwestern Thpologi-
al Seminary of. Fort Worth, Texas.
He is regarded as, one pf the most
scholarly- men .at- Mercer and has
been called upon by various organi
zations of the state- to lecture
preach since coming to Georgia.

LOSE LAST GAME

Columbus witnessed the .last -battle
of the year for -th;*’ Mercer football
squad. Although losing this game,
the .team put up an excellent brand
of ba|l. In all 'probability onlyy one
man 'will be missing from next year’s
lincyPr and that is tlv* slashing full
back, “Red” Welch. Many sport
Writers in commenting on the present
Mercer eleven stat • that with an
other year’s, seasoning the players of
Coach Cody should round into one of I ’
the most formidable machines in the
South. ..
With only one of this year’s varsity
warriors unable to return, to ..school
next year and participate in the 1W22
football season, Coaches Strupper and
Cody-y should mould an eleven com
parable to any that play upon South
ern gridirons. In paying tribute to
“Red” Welch for the work that he
has (lone in helping tfie squad, to blast
through the- opposing linesmen, con
siderable could be said, as “Red” has
been one of the greatest fullbacks in
the South and had he one more year
to play it is, probable that he.would
be selected by some sport writers as
a possible all-Southern selection.
“Red” retires from the-scene of. foot
ball activity because of the four-year
rule, ' . .- •

so the boys-said. He did not disturb
“Bo,” but the boys .confided that they
understood that “Bo” had given in

Christmas as. he did not fancy the
idea of hanging one of his socks on

particularly’ and that he will aid

Macon Bark of Mercer
In getting Strupper to cpmc to
Mercer, it is said that this goes far
toward giving the Baptist university
recognition as being in the fight to
become the leading college in South
ern football. Strupper’s coming is
made possible by the continued inter-,
est manifested in Mercer’s future by
the many loyal sport fans of Macon.
With the several civic'clubs backing
Mercer to the limit in enthusiasm
and real support, and with Josh Cody
and Everett Strupper, two of the
greatest athletes in the history . of
Southern athletics, as coaches, it is
a safe prediction that Mercer teams
soon will be recognized ns the
strongest in the South.
