Special honor has come to another
of Mercer’s sons in the recent elec
tion of Judge Sam Hunter to succeed
Judge Nottingham on the bench of
the Kecorder’s Court. Judge Hunter
is well known oyer this section of the
state, having been a prominent law
yer in Macon for a number of years,
de volunteered for service in the
army during the Spanish-American
War, and later he graduated from
Mercer University.
He was one of the original builders
of North Macon, and still resides in
that seCtien of the city. He is
“HveWire” in his work and the city
can rtEpect good results from his
services as recorder. Upon assum
ing his duties, Judge Hunter stated
that, it is his purpose to break up
some of the lawlessness, in the city,
and he is directing special attention
to the "speeders.” He said that those
who break the speed limit will be
fined one dollar per mile, '■ according
to tjie rate of speed they vjere going.
Judge Hunter’s Alma Mater to glad
to see another of her sons receive
such distinguished hnoor.
The election of Judge Hunter
places him- with other Mercer judges
in Macon, now presiding as; Judge
Jones, Judge Gunn, Judge Chambers,
Judge Martin, Judge TaUey; also the
solicitor general, Charles H. Garrett,
and City Attorney Harry Strosier,
and his assistant, Grady' Gillon.
WILK IN SON-ANDREWS
One of the surprising social events
of the season was the elopement and
marriage of Miss Louise Wilkinson, of
Brown’s Crossing; to "Judge” B. R.
Andrews of Haddock, which took place
Sunday afternoon on the picnic ground
at Shoats Mill, Rev.. Tom Farmer, a
Chaplain in the Spanish-American war
and an uncle of the bride, officiating.
The bride is the charming young
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wil
kinson, who reside in Baldwin County
near Brown’s Crossing.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. R. Andrews of Haddock, Ga.
and is a candidate for the'lbgtolature
from Jones county. He studied law at
Mercer University during- the last
year and is now attending the sum
mer school. During the World War,
Mr. Andrews was a chaplain in the
118th Field Artillery.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrews stated that
they expected to make their home at
810 Coleman avenue, Macon, until
September 16th. They then expect to
move to Atlanta should Mr. Andrews’
race for the legislature be successful
Mr. Andrews is confident of being
elected and stated that his marriage
would not affect his race.
