Although facing the Vanderbilt Commodores with a weakened lineup last .Saturday in. Nashville,' Tenn., Mercer held the strong Tennessee eleven to a 25-0 score. Vandy was held scoreless, in the first period of the game, but in the second quarter "Red" Rountree, ,sub quarterback, went around the ends for 43, yards and the initial touch down. The Commodores scored again the second period when Mercer made a short kick and Bomar bucked the bail over. A forward pass and excellent line plunging resulted in the • two other tallies of the game. ‘Red” Rountree Here STUDES WELCOME TEAM ALUMNI FIELD INF00TBALLT0DAY Dave Rice is Outstanding Fea ture for Mercer Team. MERCER SPONSOR IS "MISS MACON “ "Red” Rountree was practically the whole show so far us Vanderbilt was concerned. This man did more toward ground gaining for the Ten nesseeans than any other player, and he was especially good bn end runs and returning punts. A large number of - Vandy’s first team were forced to watch the game from the sidelines, on account-of in juries. An equal number of Mercer’s varsity were unable to make the trip to ■ Nashville on account of injuries and the dengue fever. Probably the-outstanding figure on the Mercer team was Dave Bice’i who did the majority of the ground gain ing. Norman Felder also showed up well, while. “Bubber” Pope contrib uted to the total yardage gained by the Baptists.
