"FORE-1 DOWN AND 8 TO
GO-FORE” AT BESSIE TIFT
A
100 Girls Purchase Mashies and
“HU Pill”
“Fore—3 down and. 8 to go—Fore”'
may be heard any time on the Bessie
Tift campus because. 100 girls have
purchased mashies and are zealously
endeavoring to “hit the pill” in the
scientific' way. There is a nine hole
course right on the campus, with'hedg
es, trees and tennis courts as, ob-s
structions.. .
The Golf Club has been organized
with Miss Grace Pearman as Presi
dent; Pauline Parker, Vice-President;
Louise Wells, Secretary; Florine John
son, Treasurer; and Dr. Macon and
Dr; ’ Welborri as Instructors.
Dr. Macon, is a pioneer'player in’
Macon as well as in Forsyth; He was
among the first- three to catch the
fever and he used all hisc influence in
-promoting golf playing. He has the
repiurkable distinction of not having
lost but One ball a year in his “golfic”
career, while the girls have lost some
thing like 40 in a month. If they lose
this many a month that will only be
480 in a year at the 'rate of 60c per
ball, this will be only $240. If golf is
played here for 60 years to come, and
the girls lose 480 balls a year, that
will be ? 12,000 and Bessie Tift cam
pus will be a gold mine or rother a
“golf mine.” Then Captain Kidd will
have to be called upon to find the hid
den treasures.
But back to the present. There is
to be a tournament soon and every
member of the' golf club must hegin
playing in earnest so that each Will
stand a good chance—Fore.

The following officers were' elected for
the ensuing' year: Miss Christine
Lowe, President; Miss Annie Barton,
Vice-President; Miss Emory Drake,
Secretary and treasurer. Miss Cath
erine. Mullayne was appointed chair
man of the program committee.
The program consisted of “Combien
J’ai Dance Souvenance” by Chateau;-
briand, sung by Miss Lillian Lasse-
ter. “French Guessing Game” and
“Questions and answers” in which
each member participated. Immedi
ately after the program, refresh
ments were served.
The aim of the French Club is to
promote an ihterest in the French
speaking people. As far as possible
the. meetings will be conducted in
French. The next regular meeting
will be held Monday, December 4th.
Bessie Tift Student: “Can. anyone
be punished for something they didn’t
dot” ;
Mr. (Coach):. “Why no, of course
not”
Student: “WaB, I .haven’t, worked
my problems for today.”
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF—
The regular meeting of the Cicero
nian Literary Society was held Mon
day evening, December 4th, in the
Ciceronian Hall. The “Ole Ciceron
ian Spirit" prevailed throughout the
program. This , was the regular time
for . the election of officers for the
month of December. The following
officers were elected: L. W. Lewis,
President; Broadus-Willoughby, Vice-
President; “Bed” Marshall, Critic;
T. A. Caraker, Chaplain.
Sidney Wingfield gave an interest-
. ing oration, a eulogy on Henry W.
Grady. “Sid” bids fair to bceome one
of the greatest orators the Cicero-
nians have sent forth. Following this
oration was a hot debate on, Resolved
That The Prohibition Law Has Been
Effective. T. H. Tyson • and Guy
Welch bore the colors of the affirma
tive side, -T. A. Caraker and Tom
Harvill were the champions for the
negative. Garaker and Harvill fought
hard to win their side but the decision
of the pudges was two to one in favor
of the affirmative. ■ v
Quite a number of visitors were
present at this . meeting. One new
member, Mr. J. E. Bollinger, was ad
ded to our mfdst. ’
B. M. Herring.
