ROBINSON’S MEN ARE
PRAISED IN W camc
Hy Hugh Awtrey
The official score
board at Sanford Field
. last week tallied a
count of 7 to 9, With
the Georgia Bulldogs
holding odds against
the. Mercer Baptists in
a certain argument en
gaged in on the grid
iron.
Georgia won the foot-
hull gume, and it log
ically follows, that Mer
eer lost it.
But -. on the great
score board of south
ern football, in
sport puges of the dai
ly press-, and in
minds of;thousands of
admirers and ev.en- ri
vals, of the Orange and
Black, an entirely dif
ferent record is indeli
bly written. Georgia
scored a physical vic
tory after a struggle
hectic in its every de
tail; the Buttling Bap
tists scored a moral
one.
•For m a n y years

able, Mercer! Univer
sity,- with the tirst
dush of the 19211 grid
season behind her, has
knocked loudly at the
door. . of the f
world — and has been
accorded a cheerful ad
mittance. And whereas, in former
years, the Orange and Black eleven,
after the season's initial buttle with
Georgia, lay broken and bleed
ing, u pitiful remnant of the.
ineffective grid machine that was,
there now faces forward in glorious
contrast a teanr, not weakened and
disorganized by u task beyond its ca
pacity, but one richer with the', ex
perience of a great light; one whose:
.physical condition- is us good as it
was before the Athens pilgrimage
■and one whose morale not under
mined by appalling defeat is strength
ened for future encounters.
Stepping Out "'*.,,
The Mercer Baptists many years
ago mkde her debut on- the gridiron,
hut due to the then comparatively
small student bbdy lin'd many other
stumbling blocks that made difficult
tne path of her athletic ambitions,
she was forced to content herself with
playing- the role of the wall flower.
The 1923 proteges of Coach Stanley,
Robinson, however, u’re far frorii the
wall. They have stepped out into the
middle of the carpet. l’raise from,
the tongues;. of friend and rival has
given glowing testimony to this fact
The Orange and Black, is now rec
ognized as a combination-of-standard
brand. . It hus intrenched itself on
South’s ' football field and there' re.
mains a. power to be reckoned with
. Clippings from the press substantiate
these -statements, for,
