ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
MEETS HERE TUESDAY
Today Mercer observes her fourth
annual Society Day celebration, .and
with a full holiday at their disposal
the Phi Delta and Ciceronian literary
societies are to stage their yearly
contests in oratory, debating and ath
letics, beginning in the Mercer chapel
about 2:30, where the strictly literary
exercises will be held.
In keeping with custom, the stu
dents have invited many fair visitors
to witness the forensic events of the
day and to back the respective socie
ties. Special invitations have been
extended to the Wesleyan and Bessie
Tift girls, and from all reports that
poured in up until today, a large
number will attend the gala festival
to be staged on the Mercer campus
today. With the only day in the whole
year that is set aside for contests be
tween the two literary societies keen
rivalry and hard-fought contests will
characterise the activities of the day
from the orations .to the basketball
game tonight Backers of both so
sieties are on hand in full force, and
the preparations of the past week are
to be fully realised today.
The program for the day begins in
the phapel building St 2:30, where
four orations,, interspersed by a de
bate, will be given, which, with two
musical numbers will complete the
literary part, of the program.
Last weak it was undecided as to
whether the basketball game between
the two societies would be played in
the afternoon or as a preliminary to
the Georgia-Mercer game tonight.
Now, however, it has been definitely
announced that the Phi Delta-Cicero-
nian game will, take place in the new
Sports arena at 4:80 as a preliminary
to the Georgia-Mercer game. The
teams have been practicing all the
week and a good preliminary has been
promised by the society authorities.
Immediately after the society game
the Georgia Bulldog quintet will meet
the Orange and Black. This
will complete the progntae for the
Ray.

The dispute as to which data on the
Mercer campus boasted the best
football eleven was definitely settled
last Friday when the Seniors took the
Frosh into camp by a six point mar
gin. The dispute as to the personnel
of the much vaunted All-Class elevens
settled' today with the announce
ment of the committee who haa been
working on this since the deciding of
the championship last week.
The Seniors lead for places on the
first selection with four choices. The
total is boosted to five with the se
lection of Freeman for the pivot po
sition along with Moncrief,. Sopho
more, in on even number of votes. In
consequence, both Freeman and Mon
crief are listed as centers on each of
the elevens. The Sophomores and
Freshman both supply three men for
the first team, when Moncrief’a name
is eliminated, giving the Seniors four
men, the Sophomores, three, and the
Freshmen three for positions filled.
No Junior player was given a place
on the composite selection for first
team, although three of these received
mention; on the second team.
Judges for the selection of the men
for the two teams were: Mike Hern

Winner of “The Alumnus’’ Story
Contest To Be Announced
Soon.
A large number of replies to the
contest for articles on the work at-
ministerial students of Mercer' was
received, according to J. K. Williams,
alumni secretary. Announcement of
the winner of the contest will be de
ferred' until . the publication of: the
March issue of .the Mercer Alumnus,
Air, Williams says.
It' is understood that the judges,
Miss Sallie Boone, Prof. Geo. Sparks,
and Dr. C. L. McGinty, have already
reached a decision on the winning
story. The reason for tha delay in
the announcement is the fact that
the March Alumnus is to ha strictly
of a canipus nature, containing many
such features', ' and . Mr. Williams
wishes tha winning ministerial story
to be one of the features.' ' .
