Triangular Debate
The schedule this year calls for
meetings with Georgia Tech and the
University of Alabama in a triangle
debate, These debates will take place
some time in April.
' .One team will be sent to the-Uni
yersity of Florida to meet the team of
that institution on.February 23rd.
This will be the first engagement with
Florida in debate for‘a number of
years. It has occurred to some .that
if Mercer follows her habit of ’defeat
ing Florida University in this debate,
as she has done in the case of ath
letics during the past twelve months,
a record, will have been made along
this line. ; • ,
' Last spring the Mercer baseball
team took four games, from Florida,
.anif the basketball- team took two
games from the 'Gater cagers, and
this fall the Bears played the Alligat
ors to. the tune of 10 to 0 in football.
Oglethorpe in April
- Oglethorpe University will bring-a
team to Mercer, on April, 3, and .it is
hoped that some reprisal may Uy
made for the football defeat of
week. or. so' ago, when these debaters
come together.. ; '■
The Other engagements will be on
Mercer 'grounds also and the opposi
tion will be furnished by the Alabama
Politechnic’Institute of Auburn.
Up to'the time that this article went
to the press, the Debating Council had
not assigned the different teams to
the colleges they are to oppose
Four Out of Five ■
Last .year Mercer made a splendid
record, defeating four , of the five
colleges met in msjor debates.
In the triangle debate between Mer
cer, Georgia Tech, and the University
of Alabama, Morcor defeated the Al
Lbama institution In Macon, and
Georgia Tech in Atlanta,
, A:)o her team went to Richmond,
•V:i„ and defeated Richmond College
on- its own home ground.
During'the session of the Southern
.BapUat. Convention held in Atlanta
iapt May, Mercer sent two teams to
that city and met William-Jewell Col
logo and Wake Forest .College respec
• lively. In the case of the first, Mercer
brought home the bacon, but lost to
Wake Forest.
