Yates, Johnson Receive
'56 Sullivan Medallions
Nancy Yates and Sidney Johnson are the 1966 recipients of the
Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion. This award is made possible by
the New York Southern Society and is given to two members of the
graduating claas for outstanding leadership qualities and character
shown in daily living.
Nancy was editor of the Cauldron this year. She is a member of
Cardinal Key, Sigma Mu, and of Chi Omega sorority. She has been a
member of the BSU Executive Council, Women’s Student Government,
the Cluster staff, Ciceronian Literary Society and the Mercer Choir.
Sidney served as president of Student Government Association
during the past year. He is a member of Blue Key, president of Tau
Kappa Alpha debating fraternity, a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He
is a Distinguished Military Student, a member of Scabbard and Blade,
and has been on the Debate Council and in the Mercer Choir.

Seven Mercer co-eds were tapped for membership in Cardinal Key
honorary leadership sorority in student chapel Tuesday morning.

election. Only two offices were
decided in the first election, held on
Thursday of last week. W. P. Rog
ers defeated John Rabun for vice-
president and Tony Doganiero won
on the first ballot for the sergeant-
at-arms post.
Honor Council Trial
The Honor Council tric'd their
first case of this session Thurs
day, May 17, 19,"i6. The case was
given the numher 1. The defend
ants in case 1 were found not
guilty.
Tate Names '56
Cauldron Editors
Key position members of the
1967 Cauldron staff were announced
this week by Alice Tate, newly-
elected editor.
Nan Williams will be serving as

Mr. Estes, who has just complet-1
ed a course of special study in re- j
ligious education at Southeastern Mosely to Head
Baptist Seminary in Make Forest, *
N. C., will begin work immediately,
and will reside in Tifton, Ga. He
succeeds Col. Joe H. Jenkins, who
is retiring June 1.
The Mercer Extension Depart
ment. under the direction of Dr. P.
Harris Anderson Jr., operates near
ly 50 centers all over the state,
where pastors and laymen may take
c ollcge courses, with emphasis on
Christian studies, from qualified e | wt(M j

A native of Gay, Ga., Mr. Estes
received his A. B. from Mercer in
1928, and the M. A. from Mercer
in 1929. He received the Th. M. from
Southern Baptist Seminary at
Louisville, Ky.
Mr. Estes has held pastorates at
Rochelle, Gh., 1931-34; Barnwell, S.
C., 1934-40; Newberry, S. C., 1940-
50; and Seneca, S. C., 1950-66. In
the South Carolina Baptist Con
vention Mr. Estes has served two

General Board, Chairman of a
special committee to study the Co

He is married to the former
Mildred Denton Rountree; Mrs.
