the claw president to the best of
his ability and will strive to bring
honor to the Class of '67 at every
opportunity. He promises to strive
to Rain additional privileRes and
recognition to all those attaining
Senior status. He would also like
to see the Senior Class gain added
influence in the Student Govern
ment with each Senior given the
opportunity to take an active rok

gestions, and will work toward that
end.
JOHN R JOHNSON
John R. Johnson, candidate for
Vice-President cf the Senior Class,
is from Mount Vernon, Georgia.
He graduated as an honor student
from Montgomery County High
School, where he was a member of
the varsity basketball and track
teams, editor of the yearbook, and
member of the school newspaper
staff. In addition, he was a member
of virtually every high school club,
holding at least one office in each
Since entering Mercer, the can
didate has been a member of Kap-
lia Alpha Order, the Ciceronian
Literary Society, Pre Law Club,
Spanish Club, Young Republican's
Club (1964), Circle "K” Club,
Alembic Club, and the Inter-
Fraternity Council. He was recent
ly initiated into Blue Key National
Honorary Fraternity. He is a past
Vice-President of the Alembic
Club and is past President of KA.
which he now serves as Parlia
mentarian. In his freshman year he
was elected KA Model Pledge, and
served for a year as Correcponding
Secretary.
John says he believes that the
students of Mercer University
should show more interest in the
world beyond College Street and
Montpelier Avenue. In an attempt
to strengthen the interest of Mer-
cerians in external affairs, he led a
demonstration in November to
protest the actions of the draft-
dodgers and to support the Ameri
can fighting man in Viet Nam. He
believes there should be more
activity of all kinds on the Mercer
campus from petitions allowing on-
campus dancing in the fraternity
anti sorority suites and lodges to
a boycott for price reform in the
student snack bar and the student
book store. He thinks that such
interest in both internal and ex
ternal affairs beyond book work
which affects Mercer students is
important, and that the leadership
for such interest should properly
begin with the senior class. For this
and other reasons, he would tike an
opportunity to serve his class as
well as other students as Vice-
President of the Senior Class.

As for a political statement, I'd
like to become a functioning mem
ber of the Senate and see what
could be done to increase spirit on
campus. In trying to decide
whether the task of increasing
school spirit is worth the effort,
we should ask this question: if not
1, who?: if net now, when?

Vice-Presidont:
DAVID WANSLEY
My entire life has been spent in
the rural community of Turkey
Creek, Florida, fifteen miles inland
from Tampa. I graduated seccnd
in a class of ninety-five at Turkey
Creek High School. In high school
I was treasurer of the Latin Club,
president of the Latin Club, twice
president of the National Honor
Society, vice-president of the Let-
terman's Club, a “Tampa Times"
Honor Graduate, and a two-year
letterman in football and track.
Because of a visit to my high
school by Johnny Mitchell, director
of admissions, I decided to attend
Mercer rather than Florida State.
After battling home sickness for a
couple of quarters, I finally de
cided that I loved Mercer. I am a
pledge of Phi Mu Alpha, music
fraternity, and of Lambda Chi
Alpha, social fraternity. I was re
cently elected secretary of Phi Eta
Sigma, national scholastic honorary
fraternity. The “Social Set” of the
Mercer Clutter is also my responsi
bility.
Politically, I would say that I
am for God, country, and dancing
on campus and against Altixer,
communism, and deferred rush; but
I won't. In all probability, my op
ponent could stand on this same
platform. I will, however, promise
a job well done.

While attending Briardiff High
School in Atlanta, Georgia, I was
president of the sophomore and
junior classes, played basketball.
and in my senior year was tapped
into the National Honor Society.
Here at Mercer I have held two
offices in SAE social fraternity and
I am a member cf Phi Eta Sigma,
national freshmen honor society.
However, I think the main re
quirement for this position is a
desire to do the work. I really
would enjoy serving the Junior
Class as its Vice-President and I
would enjoy working with you nfl
throughout the year. I would ap
preciate your vote and any' other
support you could give me.
