Freshman Class for 1965. Initi-
ibd as a brother of Alpha Tau

When you elected me president
of our class in October 1965, we
knew little about each ether and

#"»t at the close of a full year as
le' low students of Mercer, we
•h mid know more about what can
bi done to make our lives as stu-
<k its more beneficial to us and
oi r university I pledge to work to
h« Ip us realise a more beneficial
ident life in the coming year.
‘I will do what I can for better
lit rary hours, better food service,
better program of freshmen

the student body in my Junior
year and President during my
Senior year. I was also elected
President of the Inter-dub Council
and a Senior Superlative.
The office of Sophomore class
president is initially a representa
tive office. It calls for a person who
can faithfully and objectively repre
sent his classmates. During the
campaign I am meeting more of
my classmates each day and by
April 19, I hope to have met all or
a large majority of them. By meet
ing the people whom I will repre
sent, if I am elected, I know I can
do a more efficient job of repre
senting. I will appreciate every
vote. Remember: “Use your head
—vote for Ed.”
LARRY JACKSON
My name is Larry Jackson and
I am a candidate for President of
the Sophomore Class. I’ll begin
with a few facts which I think make
me qualified for this position. I at
tended Columbus High School in
Columbus. Georgia where I parti
cipated in student activities and
social affairs. I was Vice President
of my high school fraternity. I
served as President of the youth
group at my church. While at Mer
cer I have been a member of th*
rifle team and have served as Vice
President and Social Chairman of
my pledge class.
My platform rests on two points.
First, this past year I have failed
to see many projects run by the
individual classes. The Sophomore
class does sell rat hats to the fresh
men. What else does it do? If given
the opportunity, I think next year’s
sophomores will work on projects
to produce money for more off-
campus social functions.
The second part of my platform
relates to the membership of the
Sophomore Class President in the
S.G.A. Senate. I think there is a
lack of organization in our stu
dent government. A good example
is the present election we are en
gaged in. I wrote this article Sun
day night and at that time we
candidates had not yet been told
that we would or would not make
speeches on Monday. Organization?
I doubt it! I think that there should
be better planning and organization
in our S.G.A.
If I am elected President of the
Sophomore Class I will strive to
obtain mere projects for sopho
mores and create better organiza
tion in our Student Government.
If I am not elected, I hope that

in first 2 quarters.
I ask for your vote on April 19
in order that I might serve ycu as
president of the class of 1969. I
earnestly ask that you will con
sider my qualifications in choosing
so that we might together strive
to make our class the best Mercer
has even seen.
MIKE CROOK
This brief biographical sketch is
an attempt to inform you, the stu
dents. of my qualifications as a
candidate for the office of Sopho
more Class President.
When not attending Mercer I call
Stuart, Florida, ray home. I gradu

also was named to the District All
Star Team in American Legion

Sigma Fraternity and served as

initiated winter quarter and have
recently been elected Assistant
GMC of the Fraternity. I play cn
Mercer's Baseball team, partici
pate in the ROTC program and
have a 1.53 academic average for
the first two quarters.
As for my political views, I be
lieve that Freshman Week and the
orientation can be run more ef
ficiently to create more spirit in
the new freshman class. Through
more interesting activities during
the Freshman year this objective
could be accomplished. I believe
that the Sophomore Class should
sponsor more projects such as the J
telephone directories that the
sophomore class distributed this
year.
CHUCK OGBURN
Chuck Ogburn is a candidate for

My name in Bob Porter and I
would appreciate your sup|x>rt in
my campaign for Vice-Prenident of
the Sophomore Class. I was horn in
Washington ,D. C. and have lived
there all of my life I attended
Woodrow Wilson High School.
Since coming to Mercer, I have
server! on several S.G.A. commit
tees and as Vice President of the
Freshman Class.
One of the major platforms of
my campaign is to try and pro
mote a better system of communi
cations between the students and
the school. As it is now, the stu
dents are for the most part un
aware of a good many activities
around the campus. Some of thees
activities were the Reel Cross
Blixxl Drive, the rally in supjxirt
of our Viet Nam policy .the motor
cade to Atlanta, and the order of
events for such school functions as
Homecoming and Greek Week. If
I am elected, I hope to help rectify
this and other situations which are
present on campus.
