same weekend, eh Big White
Hunter? Pecker Man dropped in on
Kappa Chapter before taking off
to OCS.
As usual. I find it necessary to
list those who have gotten pinned
or lavaliered. Even though their
names were included in last week's
Cluster, a few outside comments
still seem fitting.
Nathan Davis lavaliered Jane
Steed, Phi Mu. Nathan had a hard
decision to make on this one, but
the flip of a coin aided his choice
tremendously.
Ned Hastings is making a year
of it; first he lavaliered Donna
Ashman, and now he's pinned:
what's next, Ned?
Well, we did beat the Science
Center We finally moved in our
lodge this past week-end — "it
ain't too damn tuff." We are all
very proud of it and cordially invite
the student body to see it — ad
mission tickets can be bought from
any brother (Well, we've got to
pay for it!) When you come, bring
the best reason in the world
The first party of Spring Quar
ter proved to be a tremendous
success — with the Snakes being
entertained by the Phantoms at
Kraft's Lake, by the demonstra
tion of the breast stroke by Nathan
Davis and by Randy Cox's demon
stration of the hack stroke. Several
of the Snakes also enjoyed the
movies provided them by Kraft
Papermill Employees.
On the softball field the Snakes
have begun another victorious sea
son as they defeated the Lawyers,
led by all-star pitcher John Sevar-
inger. who put a lot of the color
into the game
Tennis Team Falls To Gcfc!
The Mercer Bean’ tennis team
was defeated Monday afternoon
April 24 by the University of
Georgia Bulldogs. The Bean show
ed the fruits of hard practice, play
ing impressive precision tennis but
were no match for the heavily
favored Bulldog nettoro. Georgia's
line-up includes many SBC final
ists and playing in the number one
spot for the Bulldogs is Bill Ship-
pey, 1966 SEC froeh Champion.
The most heart breaking set of
the day was between Mercer’s
Steve Nathannon and Bill Shippey.
Steve, who boasted a 10-2 win lost
record before Monday’s match,
played superior tennis in the open
ing points of each game. Steve
often got Shippey down 40-0 only
to loose the game in a flurrey of
brilliant play by UGa.'s number
one. It didn’t seem to be Steve’s
day as he went home in defeat
6-0, 6-2
The action of the day was 4v«g
by the presence of Charlie 1 Cg|
who came out of tetiramenHj
team up with Nathanson in |
doubles competition. Good Hg
Charlie, last year’s number ts
man for the Beater tfiapbyed
brilliant serve that astounded 6
fans and opponents with |
ferocity. We are sure to see Ch«d
contributing his sparkling p*
formancea on Merter coufil iri ftl
future.
Mercer has only one h<i^
match left, so get out and suppa
the Bears!
Here is the remaining schedule;
May 2 Auburn at Auhigi
May 3 Ga. Southern at Mem
May 13 Ga. Southern at State
boro
May 16 Emory at Atlaal
Phi Mu Has Weekend

the weekend of April 14, 16, and
16. There was a banquet on Satur
day night. Entertainment was pro
vided hy the Washboard Band and
Lynn Goyen (as Phyllis Diller).
Sunday everyone attended Vine-
ville Methodist Church. Initiation
of new mothers was held that after
noon, thus ending a wonderful
weekend for the sisters as well as
their mothers.
April 21 and 22 was Phi Mu

semi-formal dance on Friday night
at the Elk's Club with the Hys
