Air France Offers Wide Variety
of Student Programs Abroad for ’68

tours, summer sessions and combined study and travel holidays,
is being offered by Air France for the 1968 vacation period.
In the travel program, 14 student-
styled tours, varying in length
from 21 to 66 days, will depart New
York beginning June 11 through
August 1.
Ranging in price from $920.00 to
$2,121.00 including round trip air
fare, hotels, land transportation and
most meals, the tours provide t
wide choice of Europe’s on and off
beat destinations.
Tour sections leave in groups of
26 to 30 members. Each group has
its own multi-lingual tour leader
specially choeen from graduate stu
dents and undergraduates from Ox
ford, Cambridge or other leading
British Universities.
In summer sessions. Air France
is offering one-month language
courses for college students and
teachers in Paris and Salzburg. In
Paris, sessions in French civiliza
tion, and in elementary,' interme
diate and advanced French begin at
the Ecole Pratique of the Alliance
Francaise on July 1 and August 1.
At the University of Salzburg Aus
tria, courses in Austrian civilization
and in all levels of the German lan
guage are offered in sessions be
ginning July 2 and August 7. Lan
guage courses in Salzburg include
music, culture, fine arts, theatre
and Austrian folklore.

The cost of each session is $226,
including as many courses as do-
sired, room and board, sightseeing
programs, transfers and graduation
certificates. Air fare is extra and
optional travel extensions are avail
able.
In the area combining study and
travel. Air France has a series of
fully supervised, co-educational
programs for pre-college and col
lege students that offer study in
European universities, excursions,
cultural events and extensive travel.
For pre-college students, ages 16
to 17, a 40-day program of travel
and study at the University of Aix-
en-Provence in Southern France
begins June 28. A 60-day program
at the University of Santander,
Spain, starts July 1. All inclusive
price for each is $1096.00.
Advanced programs for students
17 to 19 are given at the universities
of Dijon, France and San Francis
co at Valencia, Spain. Departure
date is June 29. All inclusive price
for each 62-day program is $1250.
A special art program will be
given at International Student Cen
ter at Chiavati, Italy. Divided into
college and pre-college groups, the
60-day program begins July 1 and
costs $1375.00 all inclusive.
Starting July 1 and August 1,
six-weeks programs in French lan
guage and civilization are offered at
the universities in Caen, Grenoble.

Pentagon and six yean with the
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
in Europe.
The fourth new faculty appoint
ment is Jerry P. Winfield, who will
instruct modern languages. He
graduated cum laude from Birming
ham Southern College in 1964 with
a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, his
tory and political history. He re
ceived the Master of ^rts in Span
ish from the University of Alabama
in 1967 and has dor>^ additional
work toward the Doctor of Philos
ophy Degree in romance languages
at the University of Alabama.
Winfield is a member of Phi
Beta Kappa and holds membership
in Phi Sigma Iota and Sigma Delta
Pi. He has traveled in Japan,
Guam, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and
Korea (while in the U. S. Army).
For his doctoral dissertation Win
field will do a study of the Golden
Age Theater in Spain with empha
sis on the dramatist Calderon de la
Barca.
Dr. John R. Marquart, a research
chemist presently employed in the
petroleum industry, has been ap
pointed associate professor of chem
istry at Mercer University.

been a chemist with the Shall De
velopment Co., Emeryville, Califor
nia. Prior to that for one year ha

Ground, Utah.
