Sign up for U. S. SAVINGS BONDS, FREEDOM SHARES The dedication of the Willet Sci ence Center will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 23. All third, fourth and fifth period classes will be dismissed for the dedication ceremony. The dedication address will be delivered by Dr. Charles H. Townes, Nobel Prize Winner and Professor at l,arge at the Un iversity of California. It has been requested that all students attend and that they be seated by 10:50 am. Following the ceremony a Ded ication Luncheon by invitation on ly will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the main dining room of the Connell Student Center. Presenting the Luncheon Address will be Dr. Fe lix Robb, former President of Pea body College and presently Exec utive Officer of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Students will be served the noon meal in the Porter Gym nasium from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. only. A preview of the Science Center wil be held from 8.00 to 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. October 22 for staff, faculty and their wives. Reception lines will be formed in the College Street Foyer so all personnel are requested to enter on the College Street side. An Open House for the public will be held at Willet Science Cen ter from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27. An Academic Processional for the dedication ceremony will begin at 11:00 a m. All personnell partici pating in the formal convocation ceremonies are expected to partici pate in both the academic proces sion and dedication ceremonies. All personnel are expected to be SENIOR STUDENTS NAMED AS SCHOLARSHIP FINALISTS By Elijah Lightfoot A total of 20 Senior students at Mercer University have been nominated to receive either the Woodrow Wilson Fellow ship, the Danforth Fellowship, the Rhodes Scholarship, or the Ford Foundation Fellowship. All Senior students at Mercer j they were interested in attending with a 3.0 or better average were | graduate school. Of the 53 Seniors sent a letter by the Faculty Com mittee on Scholarship, Fellowship, and Graduate Studies, asking if with a 3.0 or better average, 23 responded to the letters. These stu dents were interviewed and screened by the committee. Those that fulfilled the requirements were nominated to the National Com mittee for further screening. All of the fellowships are full grants and the recipients can choose the institution at which they wish to do their graduate work. The nominees for the fellow- ships and their majors are as fol lows Woodrow Wilson Fellowship nominees: Rose Martial Babbit Psychology, Biology Jack Colson Beaty History, Philosophy Nancy Elizabeth Butle English The Willett Memorial Science Hall is the fruit of a year of construction and pointless debate with the GBC over federal aid. It houses the physics, chemistry and biology departments in a four story complex plus penthouse. The largest lecture room on campus is housed in its first floor and seats 204. dressed in appropriate attire the entire day on Wednesday, October 23, 1968. Appropriate attire for men is considered to be coat and tie, while for women dress with heels is considered appropriate. The Library parking lot and the Connell Student Center parking lots will be cleared and closed commencing at 1:00 p m. on Tues day, October 22nd. The Freshmen Women's Residence Hall parking lot will be closed at 6:00 a m on Wednesday, October 23rd. The Connell Student Center parking lot will be opened for guests arriving for the President's dinner preceding the Preview. The Library parking lot (entrance and exit on Edgewood Street only) will be opened for guests attending the Preview with the Freshmen's Wo men's Residence Hall parking lot being used for overflow parking The Connell Student Center parking lot will be reserved on Wednesday, October 23rd, for ar riving Trustees and Delegates. The Library parking lot will be re served for guests at the Dedication Ceremony and will Ire closed at 10:15 a m. until after the ceremony. An eight session seminar series on the "Imi»act of G re at Religions of Our World " began Thursday night, at Vineville Methodist Church and will lx- held every Thursday through Nov. 21. Dr. Wilfred Platt of Mercer's history department and Dr. Jack Sheppard of its Christianity department will be participating, in one of these sessions each. This seminar is under the sjxin sorship of th; Youth Committee of the Macon Council on World Af fairs and .will include three social studies students from each of nine high schools in the Macon area. Harwood Bartlett, rector of the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Macon is the moderator for the sessions Dr. Platt will be speaking on ‘he impact of religion on social organization, economics, history, and culture in India on October 17. Dr Sheppard will discuss the the ological and philosophical frame works and similarities and differ ences of Western religions on Oct 31.
