ATO Winner In
Inter-Frat Games
The 1968 edition of the intra
mural football season officially got
underway last Thursday with two
games highlighting the first-week
action. In a game pitting the Atoms
of Alpha Tau Omega against ths
Rebels of Kappa Alpha, the Atoms
came out on top with a 33-2 vic
tory. The game was a hard fought
one all the way even though ATO
began to pull away early in the
second half. The first half had
been primarily a defensive battle
with the ball exchanging hands on
numerous occasions.
Quarterback Ronnie Bennett led
his Atoms downfield midway in
the first period to score, and the
half ended with ATO holding a
7-0 advantage. The Atom’s half
time pep talk must have been a
veritable shot in the arm because
the second half was an entirely
different story. Signal-caller Ben
nett with a little help from his
friends began to strike from every
where on the field, and were soon
out of reach.
The Rebels got on the score
board late in the period when a
bad snap from center resulted in
a Rebel safety. The Rebels, true to
form, put up a good fight and re
fused to die even when defeat
seemed eminent. They will be hun
gry for a win, so look out next
time opposition.
PHI DELTS WIN
In a game also played last
Thursday, the Phi Delta crushed
the Big L’s of Lambda Chi by a
33-8 score. The first half in this
ball game was also mainly a de
fensive show with the ball see
sawing back and forth every few
downs. Both teams managed to
break into the scoring column mid
way in the period, however, with
the Phi Delta crossing over on two
occasions.
The score at halftime was 12-6
and was indicative of the dose bat
tle that the first game produced.
As was the case in the adjacent
game, the team on top at halftime
wasted no time pulling ahead. Da
vid Wilbanks led the way to vic
tory lane by scoring two touch
downs and intercepting as many
passes, and this quick burst turned
the game into a win for Phi Delta
Theta.
Charlie Cook played a good de-
fenaive game also for Phi Del.
1 jmMi chi was in the game all
the way and is to be commended
for their enthusiasm and spirit to
the end. This team wil also have
to be reckoned with in the follow
ing weeks and shouldn't be taken
lightly.
October the 16th will find the
Leo’s of Sigma Alpha Epsilon
meeting the Raiders of Pi Kappa
Phi, and the Crescents of Kappa
Sigma playing host to the defend
ing champion Snakas of Sigma Nu.
Ths bill for Thursday the 17tb
reads the Rebels of Kappa Alpha
battling the Big L’s of lambda
Chi Alpha. Both of thaaa taams
will be looking for their initial win
of ths Msenr. so this should prose
to be an sscttiag sanountar.
