"Sins of the Fleshapoids"-"Scorpio Rissing" Attacks Underground Movie Audiences From Two Sides By JOHNNY TURNER Good old 314 is really getting a workout the « days. Wednesday night a full audience got it socked to 'em by two films that ranged from sheer hilarity to dead seriousness. Sins Of The Fleshapoids is a love story set in a future land where humans Indulge themselves in all sorts of erotic pleasures. The love story however, centers on two robots called Fleshapoids who have over the centuries squired human senses through a weird type of evo lution. The Fleshapoids rebel, de stroy their human masters, and start aU over again. The whole movie is one very large put on of science fiction and Hollywood in general. As director Mike Kuchar puts it: ‘To sum up The Sins of the Fleshapoids Is my most dearest dedication to the com mercial movies, or, to put it another way, it is a joke that cost me a thousand dollars.” Scorpio Rising, in contrast, is not a joke, rather it is a dead serious investigation of the much romanti cized motorcycle gang. The film begins innocently by flashing shots nf a member of the gang working on his machine. The music con sists of old tunes like “Fools Rush In,” “My Boy Friend’s Back,” and “Blue Velvet.” The audience laughed when the film showed the members of the gang putting on their leather jac kets, chains, boots, rings, and other necessary articles because the music being played was Bobby Vin ton’s “Blue Velvet” and Elvis One Ambassador is wanted for Japan, by the Macon Council of the Experiment in International Living for the months of July and August! And it was funny when Ray Charles sang “Hit The Road Jack” while they roared up and down the streets. But I stopped laughing when the song "I Will Follow Him” was played while fragment shots of Marlon Brando (in The Wild One), Adolf Hitler and finally Jesus flashed on the screen. And the scenes of the preverted hoods preforming their ritualistic rites called Cycler’s Sabbath were disgusting. By this point the com parison was getting obvious: people followed Christ, they followed Hit ler, and now they are following By ANDREA FROST “Why, ah despahse him as much as ah despahse Giles or you with yoah bloodstained hands,” cries Lady Marianne to King John. She cannot marry the lewd, lascivious Count of Flanders just to help King John capture Robert Huntington, the son of Robin Hood and the man she loves. The poor girl was so flustered she couldn’t speak straight. But leave us not cavil because a twelfth century maiden meurthers the King’s English with a magolia- dripplng accent. The “Rogues of Sherwood Forest” was a • tale of chivalry and romance about the son of Robin Hood and his band of their return be in Macon for a year and available as speakers for the civic groups who donated the money to finance their travel. Under the Experiment’s program each Ambassador is assigned to a group of ten to a country where, after a few days of orientation, he will spend one month living with a family of that country. By such intimate living, he sees the country through the eyes of his “adopted” family. Following the homestay, the Ambassador generally tours the country informally for approxi mately three weeks accompanied by his Experiment group members, his foreign brothers and sisters or friends of the host families. The final tew days, poaathly one week, are «ant in a dty of major interest baton returning home. Redon the selected Ambassador* lean Macon, they will need to taka the Scorpios. Each is a rebel and each leads to death. It is not mere chance that the last song played was “Wipeout” by the Safaris. The death's head sym bol is found throughout the film and its significance reaches a cli max at the end of the film when the cyclist crashes and the camera switches back and forth from the red light of the ambulence to the extended arm cf the victim. Mercer has some excellent movies scheduled for this quarter, notably The Thin Man Jan. 24, Jules And Jim Jan. 29, The Young And The Damned Feb. 5 and the New Cine ma starting Feb- 27. They are all well worth seeing. dirty old men and four chickens (yup, chickens). When evil mali cious, sneaky ol’ King John tries to have Robert Huntington done in, all the merry men flocked to his aid in the woodland sanctuary. Into the woods, into the woods! Meanwhile back at the castle, the Archbishop of Canterbury ad monishes King John for levying heavy taxes and for outlawing the son of Robin Hood. King John may hang him but “a noose will not strangle the truth.” The archbishop spoke prophetic words (or the script-writer made a boo-boo). On the way to St. Dunstaris Abbey, three miles from Notting ham, King John and his re tin ire were overtaken by the greenwood’s men swinging from convenient ropes (opps, I mean vines). King John was forced to sign the Great Charter, and that, my children, is why we have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and women can no longer be forced into marriages (don’t do us no favors). a fresh and complete look at the community and collect the informa tion needed to present an accurate picture of life in our area to their new friends abroad. It Will also be their obligation to report, upon their return, through speaking en gagements to the various groups which made their Experiment possible. William Powell created on the screen in 1934, Nick Charles or as he was more commonly known, “Hie Thin Man”. From this suave, witty, sophisticated detective of 35 years ago, today’s synical, super cool ones developed. Sure, things hate changed -In the last 35 years, but what was great then is at least good now. It may be in bad taste to say the “mood of this murder mystery is essentially one of gaity and wit”, but if Lite rary Digest could say it in 1934. I can say even more today. “The Thin Man” is hilariously “super cool”; that is if you like detective stories, and who doesn’t? 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 24. Room 314 of trfe Student Center.
