The intramural football season is in full swing with at least two
teams having recorded convincing wins with their sights set on the
playoffs.
ATO Remains Undefeated
Ait) has recorded two wins so far this season, whomping
Kappa Alpha 38 0. and edging Sigma Alpha Epsilon, 18-13.
In the ATO-KA contest, the game started out as a defensive
battle, KA held a toss heralded offense scoreless in the first half
with a tough defense that repeatedly turned the ball over to their
offense with first and goal to go. However, KA’s
offense was also sputtering, and the Tau’s were
able to hold off the fired-up K’s.
However, the second half was a different ball
game. The Tau’s scored on a short pass to Hunter
New and that set the stage for four more Ronnie
Bennett TD passes, with Bennett running the ball
over for a fifth TD. Don Peyton caught two long
TD’s for the ATO’s and Chester Pierce and Steve
Carraker grabbing one each.
Johnson In the SAE contest, the Tau’s hit paydirt again
on the Bennett to Peyton duo, but the E’s came back with a
David Taylor to Eddie Roberts strike that evened the contest.
Bennett hit Bobby Hullemeir for a score, and Chester Pierce for
another for an 18-6 margin.
The E’s refused to give up, coming back after the half with
another score on a Taylor to Sandy Jones pass. The E’s fought
back valiantly after the extra point try was converted, but the
Tau’s defense held.

Sigma Nu
Wins One
Sigma Nu Splits Two
The Snakes of Sigma Nu
started the season off on the
right foot with a 20-0 ahutout
of MIMA, but was felled by a
stalwart Lawyers team 7-6.
The SN-MIMA game was
cloeer than the score Indicated,
with the MIMA team repeated
ly fluffing scoring opportuni
ties. The first quarter was a
see-saw battle, but the Snakes
crossed the goal the second
half with Henry Vann hitting
Rich Jacobs, and Jacobs
passing to Larry Jackson on a
razzle-dazzle double pass. Vann
hit Jacobs later in the half
from five yards out to make
the score 13-0.
Andy Robinson, hobbled by
a severely strained knee, but
showed no effect in his passing
arm as he repeatedly hit open
receivers. The MIMA’s were a
little nervous seemingly, as at
least five uncontested passes
were dropped throughout the
game as the receiver stood in
the end zone.

Lawyers Take Two
The Unaffiliates whipped the KA’s 20-7 in a tough defensive
battle that resembled a Detroit I.ions-Green Bay Packers Thanks
giving Day scrap.
The UA’s scored the first two times they touched the ball,
with Ricky Massey going over both times. Massey ran back the
opening kickoff some 60 yards, weaving his way in and out of
blockers and defenders, at times almost stopping in order to avoid
being tagged.
After the ensuing kickoff, the tough UA defense forced KA to
punt and Massey again took off on a run that seemed to be an
exact duplicate of the first. Massey crossed the goal with two UA
blockers in front of him, and the conversion attempt was good
for a 13-0 score with less than two minutes gone.
The game then settled down to reality, with the tough UA
defense allowing KA only one first down in the first half. The UA
offense continually moved down to the KA goal throughout the
half, but was unable to hit paydirt. That Is, without scoring on a
play that was free of violations. Three UA touchdowns were
called back in the half.
The second half was more of the same, with the UA’s scoring
late in the fourth quarter. After the last UA score by Dave
Mount, the KA’s got on the board with Jim Turner hitting Kent
Curley with a twenty yard scoring strike.
The UA’s moved the ball back down to the KA goal line late in
the game, but failed three straight times from five yards out.
The KA’s came back in the second half and played strong
defense, a tum over in their play in the 9econd half of the ATO
game.
The Legal Eagles of Walter
F. George Law School sport a
two win no loss record in in
tramural competition with
wins of Kappa Sig and Sigma
Nu.
The Lawyers-Sigma Nu
contest was defense all the way
as both defensive teams repeat
edly turned the ball over to the
offenses within 20 yards of the
goal. The offensive scoring was
done on long passes, with Vann
hitting Rich Jacobs with a 45
yard bomb against a blitzing
Lawyer defense.
The blitz worked well for
the Lawyers, as the Snakes
were forced to hurry their
passes time and again. The
Sigma Nu defense proved to be
just as tough, but the Lawyer
blitz caused the Snakes at least
a tie when they were unable to
convert on the extra point
after the Nu’s touchdown.
The Lawyers blitzed Kappa
Sig in an earliei game, 35-0.
SAE David Tagor releases a pas
in. ATO went on to win 18-14.
