UAs Outlast ATO
I he Powerful l riaffiliutes
swept two games in a row last
week to move into undisputed
possession of League One in in
tranuiral football eompetition.
The LA s. utilizing a blitzing
offense along with an over
powering defense, blanked the
Phi Delts before rolling -over
ATO.
In the Phi Dell game, Quar
terback Brady Sigler tossed
two tou eh down passes to
Kicky Massey for first half
scores that gave the LA’s a 13
to 0 lead at the Break Massey
Touchdown grabs were from
25 and 15 yards out
V.Vs picked up the pace a
bit in the second half as they
came back with a touchdown
pass to Dave Mount, who’s
probably one of the smallest
men in the game. The UA’s
converted on the extra point
for the third straight time for a
210 third quarter lead.
The contest continued as a
defensive struggle much of the
third quarter and late in the
fourth quarter before another
score was registered. With a
fourth down and goal to go,
Sigler faded back to pass, but
found the left end open and
ran in for the score. The extra
point try failed, and the UA’s
then kicked off to the Phi
Delts with some five minutes
and thirty five seconds left.
The Phi Delts kept the ball
the final five minutes but a
strong rushing defense lead by
Linebacker Earl Carswell held
off repeatedly scoring thrust
by the Delts,
Using an overpowering of
fense and a crushing defense,
the UA’s rolled over the Atoms
of ATO to take over undis
puted possession of first place.
After failing to move the operi-
ing kick-off and having to punt
for the first time this season,
the UA’s came back on offense
and moved the ball almost at
will.
Scrambling UA Quarterback
Brady Sigler fired a strike to
Chuck Brewer, from thirteen
yards out to open the scoring.

Brewer caught the ball in the
middle of two ATO defenders
and left them standing in their
tracks as he crossed the goal
line. However, the TAU’s held
on defense and stopped the
extra point try.
The Tau’s failed to be con
vinced as Ronnie Bennett,
quarterbacking with uncertain
aplomb, fired a touchdown
pass that tied the game. Ben
nett’s pass found Robert
Bellior, who was voted eligible
to play only hours before the
game after a special ruling by
the Interfraternity Council al
though he is a professional
athlete, open in the end zone
with only inches to spare.
The UA’s were in no mood
for defeat as they came right
back after a pass interception
and scored on another Sigler to
Brewer pass play that covered
some twenty-five yards. Ano
ther Sigler pass a few moments
later found Ricky Massey open
in the end zone and the UA’s
now moved qut to a 19 to 7
lead at the half.
The Tau’s scored first in the
second half as they blitzed and
Hunter New picked off a pass
by Sigler and ran it in from
about ten yards out. The con
version try was good for a 19
to 14 score. The Sigler to Mas
sey combination clicked again
and the UA machine continued
to roll. Bennett lead the ATO
charge back with a I’D pass to
Paul Howell, but the UAs
countered with a Sigler to
Brewer combination to offset
the score. The Tau’s scored
again as Bennett ran in from
ten yards out, but the UA’s
were well in command of a
game that was not as close as
the score would indicate.
MIMA’s RAMBLE OVER
LAMBDA CHI, 22 0
Mima handed Lambda Chi
it’s second defeat of the year as
the gold and black raced to a
22 to 0 victory. The Chi’s held
MIMA to a 7-0 halftime lead,
but MIMA came back and rati
away with the game.
The first period score came
on a pass from Andy Robinson
to Bob Hawley that covered
over forty yards. After the in
termission, Robinson hit John
McKeown with a fprty-five
yard scoring strike. The
MIMA’s coverted on the extra
point try then scored after the
ensuing kick-off as Hawley
caught the Lambda Chi quar
terback in the, end zone for a
safety and a 15-0 lead.
Ed Davidson set up a third
MIMA score with a seventy
yard run down to the Chi’s
three yard line. Robinson then
hit McKeown with a three yard
pass for the score and con
nected with Davidson for the
extra point to conclude the
scoring.
The win evened the MIMA’s
record at a win and loss for the
season as they look forward io
a possible slot in the division
playoffs.

Phi Mu vs ADPi
The Phi Mu vs ADPi volley
ball game began with both
teams losing their first serves.
However, after this slow start,
Phi Mu came barreling through
for their second victory of the
season, their first was against
MICA. At one point, ADPi
started giving Phi Mu “a run
for their money”; however, the
rally proved to be short lived
even with thi fervored shouts
of their fellow sorority sisters.
Alpha (lam vs. UA
The Alpha Gam vs UA game
began with a bang, the UA
team getting a 12 3 lead. How
ever, the Alpha Gams managed
to catch up and win the first
game 18-16. In the second and
third games, the UA team
slowed down and won them
both, 15-4 and 15-1.
UA vs ADPi
The UA vs ADPi game was
just short of a runaway with
the .UA’s winning the first two
games 15 4 and 15-2. The first
game was rather active with
both teams having good vol
leys. However, in the second
game the ADPi team seemed
unprepared as they let UA
serves fall to the floor un
touched.
A team wishing to postpone
a game must get permission
from Miss Jones before doing
so.
Each team will send one
scorer each time they play. The
scorers should pick up scoring
equipment and balls before go
ing out to the courts.
The Snakes of Sigma Nu
closed out the regular portion
of their season with a win over
the Sigs that assured them of a
spot in the playoffs. Sigma
Nu’s three win for the year
came close to being a defeat as
the Sigs fought tooth and nail
until the last whistle.
The Sigs started the scoring
with Rip Mehrhoff throwing to
Ralph Parks for the score. Tht
Nu’s then came back with a
scoring strike from Henry
Vann to Richard Jacobs, a
combination that has spelled
success for the Nu’s all season.

Mehrhoff came right back
with his favorite receiver and
moved ahead of the Nu’s at
13-6. However, the Vann to.
Jacobs combo came back to tie
the score again, with Tom Ben
nett gathering . in the extra
point.
Again, the Vann to Jacobs
combo worked and the Nu’s
now lead 20-13 as Bennett gar
nered another extra point. The
fired up Sig. team came back on
an unbelievable 79 yard pass
play on the Mehrhoff to Parks
team, but the Nu’s stopped the.
extra point try.
The final score of the game
came on a Vann to Ed Bagley
pass play that covered some 60
yards.
The loss was the second of
the year for the Sigs, who are
still looking for their first win.
