1 News Briefs 1
President Harris has reported that Mercer’s program of reli
gious retreats “has been capable of achieving an amazing rele
vance to student religious interest and need.” Weekly meeting
of small groups for prayer and discussion in faculty homes has
been “one of the most meaningful” activities for those who
participated.
The campus has experienced the growth of “a deeper con
cern among students with community service opportunities in
the surrounding urban area,” Dr. Harris reported. “Practice
teaching, social work Internships, church and neighborhood
group work, are all cases in point.”
President Harris called for renewed efforts to implement
such activities “as the really quite amazing program of psycho
logical aid in the Milledgeville State Hospital.” Psychology stu
dents from Mercer have madl significant strides in helping re
tarded children at the hospital.
