Il Mercer announces program to extend Upward Bound services Drama group presents play “Twelfth Night" A new feature of Mercer University this year is the Special Services program wtach came into being through the Upward Bound program Special Services was <fcawn up by faculty members beaded by Jerry Stone and is structured to offer tutorial services for students who meet the criteria and counseling for the physically handicapped Mr Bobby Jones will serve as director The project is designed to help the student who has traditionally been excluded from institutions of higher learning, adapt readily to college life, and achieve maximum success in his en deavors as s student The criteria for selection for the Special Service* is sny student enrolled in Upward Bound, any student from i Talent Search project, any student from a low income background, any student with inadequate high school preparation, or any student who is physically handicapped The project will provide diagnostic evaluation of each student to determine his special needs It will also provide counseling for each student to ensure that be takes full ad- Leap frog incident stirs resentment On Tuesday. Mias Gloria Harrison, said the play is open to the public and the ad mission would be R OO, on a first come, first serve basis Shakespeare's "Uth Night" is being approached by the Drama Club with a futuristic outlook Instead of the 17th century witnessed in BaraeiU The play itself interweaves romance end humor Mlae Harrison described the play as "Delightfully humorous and romantic at the same time." Mias Harrison obviously feels that this is one of Shakespeare's greatest works or at least ant of his funniest Miss Harrison stated that the two main characters were, "Maria." being played by Peggy Blow, who is a freshman, and "Feats," who Is being cast by Audie Maloti Mias Harrtaoo's Assistant Director is Mary Drfreesa. with Carol Ison as the Stage Manager room and gat a good laugh This year the Mercer University Choir, under the direction of Mr. John Van Cura, continues to further its purpose of presenting choral music of Uk highest artistic and cultural caliber while providing a pleasurable outlet for musical expression. The choir will use choral literature <of all historical periods, both sacred and secular, in an attempt to create an omnibus of all musical tastes The choir will provide the choral music for the University Chapel services on Friday mornipga five times this quarter. Other plans for fall quarter include a performance of Handel s MESSIAH in the chapel at Mercvr on December 0, 7, and 13. The choir also has been invited to sing the MESSIAH at Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah.
