This is the question I asked
myself while behind the

bacame aware that the Macon
Little Theater is more than just
an amateur organization
Resident Director Handel I
Winder had indeed been
professional long before his
move from St Petersburg to
Macon A seven-y ear veteran of
Hollywood, he rs a graduate of
the Pasadena * Playhouse
College of Arts, and s-rved as
the Entertainment Specialist
for the US Marine Corps He
also participated in command
performances for Presidents
Roosevelt and Truman
Besides having leading roles
\ in such California tneater
\ productions as 'Of Mice and
Wien. "Desire Under the
Elms. Midsummer Night s
Dream. ’ and "Death of a
Salesman. " he has starred
in two films. "Westward, the
Women." and Bugles in the
Afternoon " Perhaps he is best
remembered by his roles in
television shows such as My

In the past the Macon Little
Theater has taken on some
pretty big productions
"Oliver" by Lionel Bart,
produced earlier this year, had
IBS players, while Meredith
Wibons "Music Man. per
formed last year, had a cast of
286 and "Inherit the Wind.”
from 1968. had 101 role* These
three plays are the large*: eve*,
produced by Mr Widner in the
three years he has been with the
theater
When asked about his
directing techniques. Mr
Widner replied that in a com
munity theater he gets better
results by acting as a motion
picture director and showing
the actors what he wants For
this reason, he does not require
that his players have any ex
perience whatsoe^rr Even
though they may not be aware
of what is needed in a show,
they can be easily directed,
while professional actors would
resent too much of the same
process
