For Whom The Bell Tolls
(CPS) — Ask not far whom Ms
Bed tolls. She tolls for students
around the country who pay
' anywhere from *40 to *100 in
deposit-fees for new telephone
These extravagant payments
are no indication, however, of any
financial distress in Ma Bell s
kitchen. American Telephone and
Telegraph (ATfkT) reported net
earnings of *1.01 billion for the
past three months, a record
rivaled only by the Exxon
Corporation. The Bell system has
already received approval far 32
regional increases so far this year
which will provide *641 million in
added revenue.
