The “Key” Rejections
by Ron Akennar.
The thoughts in tni* article
were brought about almost
entirely from an article in the
last issue of The Cluster. The
article that 1 am referring to
dealt with the students selected,
for the Blue Key National Honor
Fraternity. I have nothing bad
to aay concerning the means of

Students Miss
Musical Opportunity
A Letter to Mercer Studenta:
Boy, did you miss an
excellent conceit by the Mercer
Band last Quarter! Where were
all of you? It would have given
you a delightful one-hour break
from studying and shown school
spirit and support for an
excellent group of musicians.
The program was varied enough
to suit all tastes believe it or
not, they even played a Chuck
Magione number! Many of you
also misted a beautiful concert
Sunday afternoon by the Mercer
Choir. Among many interesting
and beautiful worka, they
performed also some unusual
Leonard Bernstein music which
would have appealed to moat of
you.
In my 8 years at Mercer, I
have not heard two better
groups of musicians perform
here than did the Choir and
Band that week. The Music
Department is to be congratu
lated in having' such fine
teachers as Hoyt LeCroy and
Michael Schwartzkopf on the
Musk faculty.
I applaud also bach and every
member of the Choir and Band
who worked so hard to give such
fine performances. Next time
these two groups give a concert,
make sure you’re there. Who
knows, you might really tike it!
After all, it’s part of your
liberal Arts education and one
facet that is totally enjoyable
with no studying required!

Office of Vice President for
selection. My congratulations
are extended to all seventeen
people who were elected to
membership. ~~
What I want to complain
about is not the people who
were admitted, but the manner
in which Blue Key (and
Cardinal Key for that matter),
handled the students who were
rejected.
This past fall I filled out
applications for both Blue Key
’ and Cardinal Key. The honor
for even being considered for
these two organizations was
great, but it quickly diminished
when I heard nothing else from
either of the two. I was severely
1 perturbed, however, when both
Blue Key and Cardinal Key did
| not inform me that I had not
I been selected. A simple form
j letter telling me that I had not
a been chosen would have been a
C lot nicer than being given the
silent treatment. This may be a
small issue to get upset about,
but I believe that both Blue Key
and Cardinal Key should be
concerned not only about those
students who were accepted,
but those who were rejected.

Early Spring At Mercer
The Sun shines so brightly,
Warmly toasting roasting bodies.
The cherry trees are snowy.
Summer virgin brides once more.
Students toss their frsibees.
Throw their softballs, laugh so niftly.
Study in the sun, and rejoice
'Cause Spring is here. -
Early Spring at Mercer, flowers bloom
And none’s the worser.
Than the fleeing winter weather
Cast adrift by Early June.
Lovers laugh together,
Rejoicing in the weather.
All love one another,
» Cause the Sun loves everyone.
And Everyone’s a poet,
And although they may not know it.
Only wonders "when in Hell they'll tftm
The damn Air Conditioners on.”
