Hallquist To Present Recital At Wesleyan

Dr. Rob Hallquist. faculty pianist in
tyercer University’s College of Liberal
Arts, will presc nt a recital for The
Morning Music Club of Macon on
Thursday. March 10 at 8 p.m. in the
Porter Auditorium at Wesleyan College.
A native of Shreveport. La.. Dr.
Hallquist received the bachelor of music
degree from Centenary College. His
graduate training includes a master’s
degree from Indiana University and a
doctorate of musical arts from North
Texas State University where he studied
with such outstanding artists as Abbey
Simon. Zadel Skolovsky, and Joseph
Banoweu. He served as a graduate
teaching assistant at both Indiana
University and North Texas State
University.
The recipient of numerous honors and
awards. Dr. Hallquist is a member of the
American Lisxt Society, the Chopin
Foundation of the United States, Pi
Kappa Lambda, and other professional
organizations. In solo recitals in five
stales, he has featured a broad spectrum
of the piano literature, ranging from
works of the French clavecinists to the
compositions of George Crumb.
His program for the Morning Music
Club will include Prelude and Fugue in E
Minor. Op. 35, No. 1 by Felix
Mendelssohn; Variations on a Theme of
Pagaini. Op. 35, Book 11 by Johannes
Brahms; and Sonata in B Minor (1953)
by Franz Liszt before intermission. After
intermission he will perform Fantasies
tucke. Op. 12 by Robert Schumann;
•'Des Abends," ’’Aufsehwung.’’
■’Warum,” ’’Grillen," and "In der
Nacht.” He will conclude the program
with Concert Arabesques on “The
Beautiful Blue Danube." This was
transcribed by Adolf Schulz-Evler.
“Evita” Returns To Fox Theater March 1
"Evita," the award winning interna
tional musical hit will play a return
engagement by popular demand at
Atlanta's Fox Theatre for one week only
opening March 1 through March 6. The
musical hit. which played Atlanta last
August with a different national touring
company, has direction by Harold
Prince, lyrics by Tim R ve and music by
Andrew Lloyd Webber. "Evita ' is
produced by Robert Stigwood in associa
tion with David Land.
"Evita,” which tells the story of
Argentina's Eva Peron and her rise to
power in the late 1940's and early
1950'?, is sung and danced by a cast of
34 headed by Derin Altay as Eva Peron
R. Michael Baker as Che and Robb Alton
Fossil Lecture Series At Museum
In conjunction with its current natural
science exhibit. A GIANT FROM THE
PAST, a collection of fossils from
prehistoric animals such as Tyranno
saurus rex, the Mastodon Elephant and
the Giant Ground Sloth, the Museum of
Arts and Sciences will offer a series of
three fossil lectures on Tuesdays at 8
p.m. frqm mid-February through the
First week of March.
The series begins on Tuesday. Feb.
ruary 15th, with "Dinosaurs and Bone
Hunters. Fact and Fantasy, a slide show
and discussion on the evolution and
extinction of dinosaurs, including per
sonalities of dinosaur hunters. The
lecture will be presented by Dr. Josh
Laerm from the University of Georgia.
Tuesday. February 22nd. Dr. Bruce D.
Dod of Mercer University will discuss
the paleogeography. paleoclimates and
paleobiology of North America with
special reference to the Southeastern
United States, in The Geologic History
of North America.
The Museum of Arts and Sciences'
Director of Science. Steve Hartman, will
close out the series on Tuesday, March
1st, with "How Fossils Are Preserved.
Excavated and Reconstructed, a slide
lecture featuring well known fossil sites
in California. Florida and Georgia.
Admission is free to all fossil lectures
and they begin each Tuesday at 8 p.m. A
GIANT FROM THE PAST, now on
display^ in the Museum’s S. ^loyd
Newberry Exhibit Hall, will be open
through March 27th.

"EviU” opened on Broadway in 1979
(wher%it is still running at the Broadway
Theatre) sweeping the 1979-80 theatre
awards winning 7 Tony Awards includ
ing Best Musicai. the New York Drama
Critic's Circle Award - Best Musical, and
6 Drama Desk Awards including Best
Musical. In addition to the Broadway
company and upcoming Atlanta engage
ment, there is an additional American
company of "EviU” currently on an
extensive tour of the United Sutes.
