The extension as proposed will be only twenty miles long, extending from Marietta to Atlanta. Tbe marble mines of Pick ens county, famed all over tbe union as sending out building ma terial which vies in beauty with that of New England, and even with the snowy purity of Parian products, will be thrown open to the world. Tbe connection thus made with At lanta will ueceMitate a northern outlet, aad the road which now eads at Murphy, N. will soon bear 1 paaeengers and other precious freight into tbe depots of Knoxville, or some other equally progieseive city toward tbe aorlh. It is in this way that tba bidden wealth of Georgia's lands will b« brought forth, to redound to the wealth and prosperity of tbe Stale. Deab Chbonicle: —l see a great 1 many idle people and I bare been reflecting on it. I have arrived nt this conclusion. There is too much 1 Inbor saving machinery in the world, ’ and they are still trying to invent ' machinery that will perform tbe , work with lees band*. When I was > ten or eleven years old farmers done their reaping with reap hooka, or 1 sickles, as they called them. A man would cut a space, say two feet wide, with a binder to follow him. It took al least four reaper* to cut as wide a space as we cut with a scythe, and it lock four tiinee ns long to cut through * field as with a scythe, but they have reapers drawn by two horses which will cm more than six or eight scythes. So you see that every lime they make * machine that two men can work that formerly required twenty, it supplants eigh teen men. And that is not all, for tbe product* of those great Isbor saving machines are so enormous that that they produce beyond tbe demand, beyond the want* of tbe people. There are so many out of work just because the labor-saving machines over produce that they are lying around loose an.l idle, and lhe result is, they become extremely vicious. We all know that idleoes* tea desperate bad tbieg. When men are i<ll«, they will do mischief. 1 was never idle much, but wbeu 1 was 1 learned to gatable and drink and do everything that was wrong, •nd nothing that was good. Well, bow shall we change thia order of things? To tell the truth I deal know. Men who have nwoey to buy tnaebiaery that will do the work cheap will do it. aad there ia ao law to prevent It, but it certainly works to lhe detriment of the la borer. I know no remedy only let it work ita own cure. Every thing will in the end regulate itself, or destroy itself. When our bodies get full of effete worn out morbid matter, by a tew of oar organism It goes to work oa tbs enemy (the worn out mailer) to expel it fro* tbe organism, and It will do it or destroy tbs life of the organism, aad it te so with everything ia tbia world, when tbe whole machinery i don’t work barmon'owa it will ngbl itself or destroy Itaeif All govern ments are so too. Whether tbese are tb* diaooaitioas of provideoee or foie I cannot sey, but I do say everything ia nature works ita owe curs or destruction. Oct. 7.—Ex-poet- 8 nastei General Hatton has created a aer- t Htion by printing in bis paper the time, place, and even the price, for which a list of the questions to be asked at an exami nation held in this city by the Civil 1 Service Commission was furnished to a c party here. The list was sold by an err- r ployee of the commission, who is a brother- j in-law of Commissioner Lyman, aud to t clinch matters he has printed a letter from Si-Commissioner Edgertnn to President Harrison, written last April, containing tl e same charge. A congressional investiga tion is now a foregone conclusion, even tbe , C-immissionera, at least the new oni-s— , Messrs Roosevelt and Thompson—admit | that such an investigation is necessary and Halton claims to be prepared to prove other things i qually as damaging agamst tne methods that have been used by the commission. Every one is wondering why President Harrison did not at one.- ' oiler an investigation upon receipt of Mr. Edgerton’s very plain letter. Such things will hardly help the Civil Service Com miaskin in getting from Congress tbe largely increased appropriation which will te asked for at the coming session. There is no truth in tbe sensational statements sent from here to tbe office that tbe representatives Chili refused to attend tbe organization of the Three Amer ica* Congress tavause they did not wish to vote for Mr. Blaine as President. The only reason that Chili was not represented Wa* because tbe delegate, who to to serve with Senor D>n Varas the Chilian m nis ter here, baa not arrived with bis own and tis minister'* credential*, and without tnem the minister, aith'ktgh here, could not take hi* seat in that body.
