GEORGIA NEWS.
Health of Albany is excellent.
Augusta is enforcing the dog law.
Augusta has quarantined against
Memphis.
Postmaster Arnold, of Albany, has
gone North.
Mrs. Georgia Vinson, of Crawford
county, is dead.
Southwest Georgia is having fre¬
quent barbecues.
Mr. Nathan Bryant, aged 77 years,
died at Marshalville.
It is reported that a valuable gold
mine has been discovered about thirty
miles above Atlanta.
Hall county is to build a ten thou¬
sand dollar court house, and a six thou¬
sand dollar jail is to be erected at
Gainesville.
The total taxable property of Meri¬
wether county is §1,426,053, a de¬
crease from last year o i $30,000.
On last Saturday night Mr. E. J.
Wilson shot and killed Cummings Kel
lin, colored, in liis (Wilson’s) horse
lot, in Macon county.
The Butler Herald suggests that the
Legislature pass a bill exempting for¬
ever from jury duty, or any other
public duty, the men composing the
jury that tried Gibson.
Max Franklin, a dyspeptic of At¬
lanta, placed his head upon the rail¬

A tliirty-four days’ drought termi
nated last Sunday in Telfair county
by a tremendous hail storm, which
stripped the cotton of fruit and leaves,

illness of Mr. Frank Nisbet, of Bibb
county, youngest brother of Judge
dames T. Nisbet. He came into the

shall be placed in a box or barrel upon said
premises; and that the rubbish collected from
sweeping ready the the Scavenger’s sidewalks should be deposited
for cart; all persons are
notified that any person violating the ordi¬
nances in this respect by failing to comply
with their requirements, or by throwing or
placing rubbish or dirt in the streets or lanes
(otherwise than in convenient heaps for the
Scavenger’s cart) will be placed on the infor¬
mation docket and dealt with accordidg to
law.

QUARANTINE NOTICE.

Savannah, March 19 th, 1879.
On and after TUESDAY, April 1st, 1879, and
until lurther notice, all vessels coming to this
port from ports soutli of Cape Hatteras, from
South America, any of t he West India Islands
and any of the Guff ports, shall be required to
stop and remain at the Lower quarantine
Station, by opposite quarantine Cockspur Island, Officer, until in¬
spected the at that
point and granted by him a written permit to
come up to the city. When considered neces¬
sary any or all vessels will be subjected to re
inspection by the Health Officer after arrival
in the port. Vessel
Any coming by the inland route from
Florida, or other Southern ports, will not be
permitted to land either passengers or freight,
until inspected by the the above Health Officer. No
Vessel from any of mentioned ports
will be detained longer than sufficient to lie
thoroughly rendered cleansed, liable fumigated, disinfected,
and not to convey any infec¬
tious or contagious all disease. with sickness

large of unmuzzled dogs in the streets, lanes
