Church leaders also announce their second annual “Youth Explosion” 2009 to celebrate and commemo rate the life Dr. King. This event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. at Holly Creek Baptist Church, Comer. “We are asking all youth leaders to help us make this an amazing event by enlisting youth and young adults within their respec tive churches,” leaders said. There will be singing, dancing, stepping solo and a contest on three-minute speeches on “The Dream. Man with cake on face charged with battery A Colbert man was arrested on family violence charges last week following a domes tic incident at his Jack Sharp Road home. James Edward Brock Jr., 41, 459 Jack Sharp Road, was charged with one of sim ple battery FVA. According to the incident report, Deputy Gary Floyd met with Mr. Brock and his wife. Mrs. Brock said she and her husband got into an argument and that he struck her with a baseball bat but “didn’t hit her hard.” He then dropped the bat and punched her in the face, she stated. The deputy noted a clear swollen bruise under her left eye. Brock, who appeared to be intoxicated, had choco late cake covering his entire face according to the report. When asked for his side of the story, he informed the deputy that he “couldn’t remember.” Mr. Brock was transported to the Madison County Jail and Mrs. Brock was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries and released. Others arrested by law enforcement officials in the county last week included: •Tony Rydell Hare, 39, 1775 East Broad Street, Athens, bench warrant. •Marcus Lyle Hathcock, 22, 714 Miller McElreath Road, Danielsville, DUI (second offense), failure to drive within a single lane, driving without headlights when required and driving while license withdrawn, suspended or revoked. •James Smith Jr., 39, 355 Old Church Road, Athens, probation violation (original charge: aggravated assault). •Rita Jo Apgar, 54, 1988 Hwy. 172, Comer, DUI. •Dustin Wayne Cash, 36, 6596 Hwy. 191, Comer, theft by shoplifting in the first degree. •Joseph Wayne Etheridge, 44, Moriah Church Road, Danielsville, theft by shop lifting. •Roberto Carlos Gonzalez, 32, 2055 Travinnia Court, Lawrenceville, driving while license withdrawn and failure to obey a stop sign. •Antonia Jaquise Martin, 19, 121 deer Creek Drive, Apt. 22, Athens, driving with out a license, no insurance, expired vehicle tag or decal and taillights required. •Terry Lynn Cates Renfro, 45, 1110 Young Road, Danielsville, deposit account fraud. •Jonathan Rucker, 30, 193 Binion Road, Athens, expired vehicle tag or decal, speeding and no insurance. •Bonnie Claire Stith, 27, 2575 Faye Carey Road, Danielsville, disorderly con duct and battery. •Joann McDonald Tompkins, 46, 1240 Old Elberton Road, Hull, DUI and open container in vehicle. Burglary reported on Farm Road A homeowner reported a number of items taken from his residence on Farm Road Sunday. According to the incident report, deputy Michael Free responded to the scene where the homeowner showed him where a lock had been broken on a gate to his driveway. A plasma TV, DVD player, four-wheeler, and other items with an estimated total value of $8,200 were found missing from the home. Long Street in Danielsville. •Marijuana possession less than an ounce was reported on Blacks Creek Church Road at Jot-Em-Down Road. •Theft by shoplifting was reported on Hwy. 29 South near Hull. •Simple battery was report ed on Noble Road in Carlton. •Battery FVA was reported on Hwy. 72 near Hull. •Battery FVA was reported on Rogers Mill Road. •Driving while license suspended or revoked was reported on Griffeth Road in Hull. •Burglary was reported on Hwy. 98 West. •Theft by shoplifting was reported on Hwy. 29 South. •Terroristic threats and acts were reported on Alberta Drive in Colbert. •Speeding was reported on Glenn Carrie Road at Hidden Falls Road. •Harassing phone calls were reported on Hwy. 106 North. •Theft by taking was report ed on Davis Street in Hull. •DUI/drugs was reported on Gosnell-Hutto Road. •DUI/alcohol was reported on Hwy. 72 West at Glenn Carrie Road. •Financial transaction card fraud was reported on Buddy Moore Road. •Theft by shoplifting was reported on Hwy. 29 South. •Mailboxes were reported ly damaged or destroyed on Rogers Church Road. •Burglary was reported on Hwy. 72 East in Carlton. •Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act was reported on Black’s Creek Church Road. r MCJ Worship regularly at the church of your choice!
