at Alzheimer’s Care of
Commerce.
Born on January 16, 1934,
she was the daughter of
the late Clifton and Zephyr
Stovall Head. She was a loving
homemaker and a member of
Poplar Spring Baptist Church.
Mrs. Alewine was preceded
in death by brothers, Rudolph
Head and Alvin Head; and a
sister, Helen Head Cisson.
Survivors include her
husband of 58 years. Max
Alewine, Commerce; son and
daughter-in-law, Gregory and
Michele Alewine, Buford;
granddaughter and grandson-
in-law, Jessica and Jeremy
Gordy; sisters and brothers-
in-law, Jean and Johnny

Mize Allison, 84, formerly
of Chestnut Mountain, died
Saturday, January 10, 2009, in
Gainesville.
She was born January 10,
1925, in Jefferson, the daugh
ter of the late Gus T. and
Julia Hardy Mize. She gradu
ated from the University of
Georgia high school in 1943.
She was a member of Chestnut
Mountain Baptist Church and
lived in Chestnut Mountain
after her marriage in 1944.
Helen was very family orient
ed and loved spending time
with her family, was very per
sonable and enjoyed reading
and babysitting her grandchil
dren and great-grandchildren,
loved ones stated. Mrs. Allison
was preceded in death by her
husband, Grady B. Allison;
seven siblings; and a grand
son, David Richerzhagen.
Survivors include daugh
ters and son-in-law, Brenda
and Lyle Letteer, Locust
Grove, Marie Richerzhagen,
Ellenwood; granddaughter and
her husband, Sandra and Albin
List, Gainesville; three great-
granddaughters, Stephanie,

at his residence following an
extended illness.
He was born March 31,
1928, in Barnard, Kan., the
son of the late James N. and
Ella Kanady Allison. He
was associated with Ballards
Optical in Atlanta, prior to
owning Allison Optician in
Buckhead. Mr. Allison was
a member of Christ Lutheran
Church, Atlanta Area Square
Dance Callers Association,
Georgia Callers Association,
Caller Lab, Lanierland Car
Club, and Georgia Dispensing
Opticians.
Survivors include his wife
of 58 years, Joyce Allison,
Gainesville; daughters and
son-in-law, Darlene and Mike

2009, at his residence.
Born in Franklin County
on June 7, 1930, he was the
son of the late Sloan Edward
and Clara
Bell Burgess
Cothran. He
was a retired
machinist, was
a member of Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church, and a mem
ber of the Athens Antique Car
Club. He was a veteran, hav
ing served in the United States
National Guard during the
Korean Conflict. Mr. Cothran
was preceded in death by
his first wife, Frances Roach
Cothran.
Survivors include his
wife, Virginia G. Cothran,
Carnesville; sons. Tommy
Cothran, Swainsboro, and
William Cothran, Canon;
daughters, Ann Hoff, Buford,

A native of Dallas, he was
an employment recruiter. He
was a graduate of Parkview
High School in Lilburn and
attended Shorter College.
He was a talented musician
who played many instru
ments and was a member of
The Buzzards band. He also
coached recreational league
football in Dacula, where his
son played.

Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville, follow
ing a brief illness.
She was born on August
14, 1944, in Fulton County,
the daughter of the late Foster
Lee Jarrett Jr. and Pearl Millan
Jarrett. She was a graduate of
Fulton High School, Piedmont
School of Nursing, with a
bachelor’s degree from the
Georgia School of Medicine.
The past 20 years she had
owned and operated Joyland
Child Development Center
in Gainesville. She was a
member of Riverbend Baptist
Church of Gainesville.
Survivors include her best
friend and loving husband
