Stripling Irrigation Research Park at the University of Georgia in November. Team member’s sophomores Zach Taylor, Colton Searcy, junior Hannah Free and senior Dan Burbaker became eligible to compete at the state event after winning the Area U Land Judging Career Development Event back in September. Also competing on the Area U Level was Freshman Academy FFA members Josh Dooley, Amberly Kincaid and Jade Andrews. Josh Dooley was awarded with third high individ ual in the area out of all the other junior team members competing. The Land Judging Career Development Event provides stu dents the opportunity to determine land classification, use and treat ment practices for selected sites. The students must consider top soil texture and thickness, effec tive depth, permeability of subsoil, slope, erosion, drainage and land capability. DANIELSVILLE HOLDS PARENT BREAKFAST Danielsville Elementary School had its annual breakfast for third grade parents Jan. 16. Students and parents were able to enjoy a special breakfast together. In addition, they were given details regarding the third grade CRCT test. Using the schools new Classroom Response System, they were given an opportunity to play “Are you smarter than a third grad er?” Pictured are Tressa and Mary Paige Powell. FIFTH GRADERS ENJOY BREAKFAST WITH PARENTS Danielsville Elementary School had its annual breakfast for fifth grade parents Jan. 23. Students and par ents were able to enjoy a special breakfast together. In addition, they were given details regarding the fifth grade CRCT test. MCHS Class of‘99 Upcoming Reunion The 10-year reunion for the MCHS Class of ’99 will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m at Camp Kiwanis in Danielsville. Tickets are $35 per person. Stover honored at Georgia College Madison County FFA team places in area event The Madison High School County FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team recently competed in the Area II FFA Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event and received third in their bracket out of over 20 teams. This has been the highest ranking team that Madison County has ever had. The event was held at the Animal and Dairy Sciences building at the University of Georgia in Athens. Participants in the event develop leadership skills and learn to effectively participate in business meet ings. The competition includes a written exam, oral questions about assigned motions and the presenta tion of certain motions and evaluation of the official meeting minutes recorded by the team secretary. Team members included seniors Michaela McGee, Lauren Bridges, juniors Kim Chandler, Taylor Huff, Christina Goodrich and sophomore and Chairperson Brianna Roberts. “Parliamentary Procedure is a great contest for any student to learn leadership skills and team work,’’ says Christina Goodrich, a first year par liamentary procedure team member. “I encourage any FFA member to get involved with a CDE that they are interested in or one that they know nothing about, it could teach you a lot!” Mrs. Trisha Lastly said “to all you rising ninth graders; the Freshman Academy needs to have a team next year and you will have these amazing girls to help train you!” D.E.S. SPELLING BEE WINNERS Tyler Griffeth, Evan Elgin and Rory Smith were win ners in the Danielsville Elementary School Spelling Bee. They will represent Danielsville Elementary in the Madison County Spelling Bee. Alexandra Stover, Ila, was named to the president's list for the fall semester at Georgia College and State University, Milledgeville. Students who complete courses with exemplary marks are named to the president's list at the university. Tolbert named to Dean’s List at Young Harris College Courtney Patrice Tolbert, of Comer, has been named to the Young Harris College Dean's List for the Fall 2009 semester, according to college president Cathy Cox. Tolbert, a freshman at Young Harris, is the daughter of Dennis and Cathy Tolbert, of Comer, and a graduate of Athens Christian School.
