Law Day essay
contest announced
The law office of Warren C.
Caswell announces that it is once
again sponsoring a Law Day Essay
Contest for local students.
All high school students in
Madison, Franklin, Oglethorpe,
Elbert, Hart, Jackson and Banks
counties are eligible.
Entries are due by April 15 and
winners will be announced on
Law Day, May 1. Full details are

This year’s topic was selected
in honor of the bicentennial
anniversary of President Abraham
Lincoln’s birth and asks entrants:
"Which of the 13 th , 14 th or 15 ,h
Amendments to the Constitution is
the most important and why?”
Further, entrants are asked
to explain how their selected
Amendment affects their life and
the lives of those around them
every day. First prize is a $500 cash
scholarship and second prize is a
$200 U.S. Savings Bond.
The Annual Law Day Essay
Contest is designed to encourage
young people to think about the
role of law in society and how law
affects their everyday lives, even
at a young age, the release stated.
Caswell has sponsored the contest
each year since opening his practice
in Madison County.

local Miss Forestry Pageant.

The pageant will consist of six age
categories, ranging from 2 to 24
years of age. The categories are:
Teeny — 2 to 3 years. Tiny — 4
to 6 years. Little — 7 to 9 years,
Junior — 10 to 12 years. Teen —
13 to 16 years, and Miss — 17 to
24 years.
The pageant will be held at the
Jones Chapel United Methodist
Family Life Center, located five
miles north of Danielsville on Hwy.
29. Group pictures will be made on
Feb. 8 at Jones Chapel.
Participants may turn in
their applications at that time.
The deadline for receiving late
applications will be Feb. 16.
This is a preliminary pageant
to the 70th Miss Georgia Forestry
Pageant to be held in Tifton in
June. The winners from each
age division will have their entry
fees paid to compete in the Miss
Georgia Forestry Pageant and will
also receive a $100 savings bond,
a professionally embroidered satin
banner, a rhinestone tiara, a large
trophy and a dozen roses.
The Madison County Pilot Club
sponsors the local Miss Forestry

announced its menu for February
distribution.
Each of the following items are
featured this month, all for a total
price of $30 per box: sirloin strip

announces news and events
The Madison County
Library has announced its
news and events for February:
•Friends Membership
Drive: “The membership
drive continues through
March; please lend your
support,” organizers said. All
money raised by the Friends
of the Library goes back
into the library through book
purchasing, program funding
and special initiatives. The
Spring Book Sale will be
March 20 to March 28, open
during all library hours.
A special preview sale for
Friends members only will
be Thursday, March 19, from
5 to 8 p.m. "If you have any
free time between now and
the book sale volunteers are
desperately needed to begin
sorting the room full of
donated books,” organizers
said. Those interested in

•Pajama Story time:
Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7
p.m. “Snuggle up in your
jammies with your favorite
stuffed animals and listen to
bedtime stories at the library,”
organizers said. "We will have
a small snack, peaceful winter
tales and a song or two.” This
program is appropriate for all
ages.
•Library Sewing Group:
This Wednesday afternoon
craft group meets from 1
to 3 in the general purpose
room. They work on new
and ongoing projects in
all mediums and with
members of all ages. This
month’s new project is
different techniques of
rug making — locker
hooking, crocheting strips
of fabric and old fashion
hooking. They will also be
crocheting baskets. “If you
have a project you need some
help with or just want to share
please come join them on
Wednesdays,” organizers said.
•February Follies: The
library will celebrate the
winter holidays of Friday,
Feb. 13, and Monday, Feb.
16, with an afternoon of
movies. The general purpose
room will be open from 12 to
5:30 for the public’s viewing
pleasure. Three different PG
movies will be played during
the afternoon. “Come for one
or see all three,” organizers
said. “You don’t have to
go to school and we want
you to have some warm fun
here. Light snacks will be
provided.”
•Young Adult Book
Discussion: This month they
will meet Wednesday, Feb.
25, at 4:30 p.m. They are
reading Septimus Heap by
Angie Sage. The program is
free and includes free food.
•Chapter Book Revue:
Every Tuesday and Thursday
afternoon beginning at 4:30
“Miss Jennifer” will be in the
lobby reading from Nancy
Drew Secret of the Old Clock

Story Time: “Your child’s first
introduction to reading: read
with them and watch them
succeed!” organizers said.
Story time includes stories,
finger-plays, songs and crafts
for literacy-based fun. It is

and Birds.
•Computer Classes: Free
and open to everyone. “You
don’t have to be nervous
about surfing the web,”
organizers said. “This month’s
four-part series will get you
connected.” Week one is an
introduction and brief history
of the Internet. Week two will
get you started with email,
get your very own address
for free. The third week will
make sending and receiving
attachments a breeze. Week
four will be a fun-filled
Internet scavenger hunt and
Google training. Sessions
are on Tuesdays from 2 to
3 p.m., Tuesday from 7 to 8
p.m., or Wednesdays from
11 a.m. to noon. “Please pre
register as this is not a drop-
in-style class,” organizers
said. “Our evening class has
been changed from Thursday
to Tuesday due to staff
scheduling.’’

QUALIFYING NOTICE
For the March 2009
Special Election
Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-540,
a Special Election shall be held in the City of Danielsville due to a
vacancy on the City Council. The election will be held on March
17, 2009, 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. The following office is scheduled for
election:
Councilman, Seat 3, Resigned Incumbent: Mr. Roger L. Watson,
term of office will be from April 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009.
Qualifying will begin on February 9, 2009 and end on February
13, 2009, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Those
wishing to qualify may do so during this time at Danielsville City
Hall, 10 Government Circle, Danielsville, Ga. Qualifying fee for
Council Persons is $59.23. The State of Georgia Municipal
Election Code sets the mandatory qualifying dates, times, and
fees. The deadline to register to vote in the March 2009 election is
February 9, 2009. You may register to vote at the Madison County
Registrars Office in the Madison County Government Complex in
Danielsville or pick up a registration form at Danielsville City
Hall.
Early voting will begin on February 24, 2009 and end on March
13, 2009, in the Danielsville City Hall during normal business
hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
